damn stonechips

Featured Replies

After spending ages respraying my front bumper last year,it is now covered in stonechips, many of them courtesy of Cornwall county councils gritters:mad:. Has anyone tried the paint protection film off e bay to try and protect the bumper on their car? There is some on there at present for a reasonable price (8.00) so i may try it as a preventative measure.Maybe much cheaper than another respray:thumbdwn:

I can't say I've noticed any issues with the bumper chipping. When you resprayed it, did you use a specialist plastic primer?

Is it just me or do others find resprayed parts chip more easily than factory sprayed parts?

Not me. My bonnet is chipped but good :(, while the bumper is perfectly fine.

I think as Ken says, the use of a plastic primer is important.

My car had a new front bumper in Dec 06, and is going back to the paintshop to have it repainted shortly. They didn't use any primer, and then one coat of silver and one coat of lacquer. Whilst the paint coat is thick, it's peeling off everywhere. My bumper looks like it's bleeding black blood!

But would primer stop the colour coat and the lacquer coming off?

A proper specialist plastic primer would do so, yes.

Elasto-Active paint additive should be used when painting plastics if not then it will chip & crack easily, reckon the bodyshop were cutting corners with the paint
