updating turbo in mk1 octavia 110bhp

Featured Replies

ive got a 110bhp mk1 octavia!!! i am interested in updating the turbo so that i can get a a good increase in power!! my car is remapped but is only pushing like 140bhp or so. would like tey get it pushed up near 180bhp at least. any one know what turbos would fit my car n what would be the cheapest way of getting this power increase??

you need an intercooler (an "FMIC" - front mounted intercooler usually) to get more cold air forced into the turbo setup

bigger turbo also often means lag, unless someone is aware of an easy upgrade path, which makes everyday use less comfortable.

you then will need it re-mapped again to account for the changes, so it could cost a fair bit.

£3-500 for the FMIC, £300 ish? for the turbo, £4-500 for the 2nd remap

plus anything else you need

not worth it IMO, buy a faster car, e.g. a VRS

You have the Garrett GT1749V turbo on your car, which is the same turbo that's on the 130bhp TDi PD engines.

So I'd have a good look in the Fabia section on tuned vRS's, and see what the usual mods they do are. I don't know much about diesel tuning, but I doubt you'll need a new turbo to get near that power. But I may be wrong.....

yeh cheers for the advice!! didnt think it would b worth it tbh. was just testin the water. yeh ive driven my dads fabia vrs a lotta times. really class car, n would be a flyin machine with a remap.

You should be able to get a bit more out of it with a straight through exhaust (diesels don't have to have a cat) and a Seat PD160 intake. There are a range of hybrid turbos available for the TDi engines which I think are what people like Jason (in the Fabia section) use to get big horsepower.

TrevorB33 is the man to talk to in this forum, before buying Gerrys car he had a heavily modified 110 diesel

i looked into this before i got rid, relaised it would not really be worth it for the gains, tbh a remapped 110 is plenty quick enough with more torque then a standard vrs, mine was 140bhp with 215llb/ft torque with decat straight through exhaust, CAI, digital tuning box, im sure 150 can be reached on standard turbo, also thought it was a smaller turbo then the fabia a vnt15 i thought, but to get 180bhp you will need FMIC, a hybrid vnt17turbo, injectors, an obviously exhaust to suit new turbo i.e bigger downpipe etc, also a CAI from a 1.8t will fit, like the carbonio, evoms etc, then i would have looked at water/methanol injection, then sorting brakes, suspension etc, but the 110 brakes require new hubs etc to go any bigger, as the carriers are integrated, so would cost a bit to go to 312mm from the 280mm, overall its a long slippery slope, but overall for ecomony and cheapness the 110's rule

cheers lad. think ill jst stick tey my 110bhp den. just save up n buy myself a better quicker car.

Hiya. If you really want a 180bhp Octy, start with a 130 and remap. I think you also get a 6 speed box rather than the 110's 5-speed.

You will indeed get the 6 speed box and a generic remap and panel filter will see you upto 170-180bhp and about 300ftlb of torque. My PD130 octi with the mentioned panel filter and Jabba Generic remap has pushed my car to 175bhp and 320lbft of torque. The brakes are a simple upgrade just caliper carriers and disc's & pads required. In theory what ever mods work on the fabia vrs should work on the octi pd130.

The pd130 octi isn't to bad with fuel economy either. On a run I've had 56mpg and general round town driving I'm getting 47mpg +

Hi!

Lucky you! You have LOTS of options tuning that engine!!!

  • New injectors or nozzles - Fratelli Bosio -> more fuel AND better spraypattern or bigger original injectors from Bosch - > from T4 Caravelle/Transporter(150hp)
  • New SMIC or even a FMIC for more dense air -> more power
  • Updating the VP37 10mm injectorpump to 11mm or even 12mm(race)
  • "New" turbo from PD 130 (GT1749VA), PD 150 (GT1749VB), or a MD340 Stage 1 hybrid from Turbo Dynamics (They "promise" 180 hp with this). By the way - I don't think the PD 130 and 110 share the same turbo. The latter is often called VNT-15.
  • Custom remap!!
  • New single-mass flywheel and clutch to handle all that torque!

I suggest you visit www.kermatdi.com for inspiration.:)
