Anyone interested in a PhatBox

Hi Stu, would this be ok with the rns510?

Yes I think so as it's effectively a CD changer clone. They work with Streams ok.

Hmm, seriously tempted by that, will it work with the symphony tape headunit?

Good morning,

I have just bought a Skoda Octavia II (June 06 - 06 Plate) which, as I understand it, means it was a few months early to have the MP3 Stream Audio onboard. However it does have the CD Multi Changer in the boot.

Would the PhatNoise Media Player Kit be compatible with my Stream/CD Multi Changer and if so how techinical would it be to install it as this may be the answer to what I have been looking for as got a lot of music on MP3.

Looking forward to a reply.

Dave

You could utilise the already fitted cable in the boot to connect to the headunit so actually quite simple.

You would need a VW cable to plug on the end of your cable.

Ahh yes, one of these -

eBay Motors: VW PHATBOX PHATNOISE ADAPTER CABLE NEW VOLKSWAGEN (item 390027892918 end time Mar-02-09 07:14:15 PST)

The VW number is 000 051 592 B although it has been discontinued you may be able to find one.

Thanks :D

Silly question but why a VW cable when the Phatbox is an AUDI item?

Plus anywhere in the UK where they do them? Maybe the Audi dealer selling the Phatbox may have one in stock?

Audi and VW use different CD changer connectors. Skoda use the same as VW.

Help please ????

Have '06 Octavia with sat nav but no CD changer......so got an ex-audi Phatbox & connecting lead for VW.

Hooked up....and on CD get message no CD.

So set AV for audio and then if I press AV select CD then 6 options are shown.

Have a few tracks on the cartridge, but female gabbles the album title quickly and a male voice informs me files are nbg!!!

Am I missing something?

Answers in simple speak as I'm ok with mechanical stuff but computers are a mystery !!

Regards....

You may need to change the firmware of the DMS. it is relatively straightforward enough to do.

You need to set it for 6 button VW which is either MFD2 or RNS-E in Audi terms.

Not really sure after that. My Phatbox worked with my MFD2 with no problems.
