Help Needed fuel gauge & alternator wire

Featured Replies

Hello everyone im new here, and what an awful few days ive had

I bought a 2003 fabia sdi estate for my wife who straight away took it and filled it up with £20 unleaded - I nearly had a stroke with rage when she phoned me. She then took it to a local garage who drained the tank and re-filled with diesel.

problem is now the fuel gauge doesnt increase from empty (although no fuel light is on)

I get the coolant light flashing at me on ignition and audible beeps

The battery light doesnt come on when you turn on the ignition

and now the battery is flat and the car wont start.

The garage said that it looks like an alternator problem which is unrelated to them draining the tank and after reading the blue exciter wire threads here i think that may be the problem so i guess my question is where abouts can i find the usual break point someone said its near the gearbox? so i can attempt to fix it and also if anyone has any suggestions as to the fuel gauge.. I have tested resistance of the sender unit and it is in the range of 280ohms with the full tank which sounds OK to me but still not showing on the dash.

Im flat broke and need to try and fix these things myself

any help would be eternally appreciated

Thanks

Tom

come on guys im in need of some help its really getting me down.... the car is on charge now and im going to put it up on ramps tomorrow and remove the bottom tray and see if i can see the suspect wire. If i find it I will take some photos for others suffering the same problem.

I'll keep you all updated.

I took the fuel sender unit out and had a look - it seems fine, with no flooded float so fingers crossed all my troubles will go away after i sort the wiring problem out.
