Engine management light - should I stay put?

Featured Replies

After a -7C night last night, the engine management light has come on in my Fabia 1.2 comfort. I allowed the car to idle until reasonably warmed before leaving, but sometime before getting out of the car to let it warm, and getting in again, the EM light has come on.

Google/these forums suggest that it could be one of a zillion faults, from a cold sensor in the exhaust to infinity and beyond.

The sheer number of complaints/questions on the issue suggests that some of you will have experienced this too; so, should I stay put and venture to the garage when it opens (tomorrow :o...), or head 70 miles home? Might this be caused directly by the cold, (or the new brake disks and pads I had fitted 3 days ago?!)

No responsibility held on the advice given of course, I'm just in the need of some scope on the problem at hand.

Thanks chaps.

does it idle alrite?

The engine management light is orange, which is a warning light that there is a problem. The car might go to 'limp' mode which might make driving a problem, but it doesn't mean you can't drive the car. Best advice is to get the fault codes read ASAP.

My EML comes and go's as it pleases.

its the cam shaft sensor for me. but its ok to drive =]
