debadging - that last bit of stickyness that gets left

Featured Replies

I've spent a happy hour or so getting the octavia and 1.9 TDi badges off the boot.

The octavia (in single letters) came off fine and has cleaned up a treat, however the 1.9 TDi bar underneath has laft some black gunk that I can't get rid of. Used nail varnish remover as well as scraping with my nails but I can't get the last little smear off.

Does anyone have any chemicals they'd recommend that'll do a better job than nail varnish remover?

cheers

Autoglym tar remover might do the trick

it should do the trick. will make it brittle if i remember rightly. will still have to use thumb to rub it off though which will mean no skin but wont be any crap left

petrol

WD 40 on a rag and elbow grease always works a treat for me !!!!

Lemon juice (or anything citrus) is a great solvent for sticky residue

I just (gently) used a credit card and it came off fine on my boot.

Might be the cold weather that's making things difficult?

petrol

second that... works better then all prof. products available... remember to wash with clear water (lots) immediatly afterwards!

cheers

WD40 will do the trick, providing there is not to much sticky stuff. Else petrol or Autoglym tar remover as others have said have always worked for me.

I ued Methylated spirit which made the sticky just fall off

Yes, agree with the guys. Anything with a solvent content in it will soften this glue residue (some will soften faster than others) and with a bit of mild rubbing it will come off. The best thing is spirit wipe, as used by the refinishing (paint spraying) trade as it removes all tar, grease and glue quite quickly but WD40 will do the trick, just makes a little mess as it leaves oil residue behind - as it is supposed to of course!

thanks for all the suggestions - I'll get onto it tomorrow afternoon and report back

Brake cleaner, works a treat when getting sponsors decals off my rally car. But as is the norm you need to use some elbow grease, then polish when finished.
