At last, I have it!

Featured Replies

Car arrived today, it was on a transporter all the way from Falkirk and was absolutely caked in filth when it arrived. Immediately spent £7 on a hand wash even though the weather is foul just to make it look good for a short while.

What can I say....best car I have ever had...lights are absolutely amazing....Park Assist has to be experienced to be believed...engine is incredible...I just love it.

I haven't a clue how to use half the features, me feels an evening with the owners manual coming on...if someone can tell me how to increase the volume of the sat nav directions that would be much appreciated.

Excellent stuff, enjoy it!

..if someone can tell me how to increase the volume of the sat nav directions that would be much appreciated.

Press the "Tone" button on the set (bottom left-hand rectangular button).

Go to "Volume"

Touch the feature volume that you want to adjust (Startup, Telephone, Navigation, etc.).

Job done (as far as I remember) ;)

Ray.

Or if you want to raise or lower the volume during navigation, just push the little button most right to the DVD/CD opening and whilst your navigation is saying directions, just turn the volume knob.

This will correct the navigation volume to the volume you like.

What was it doing in Falkirk ?

Park's in Hamilton were the supplying dealer (company car), crazy I know especially when I live less than 2 miles from my nearest Skoda dealer.

sat nav volume - there is one other solution...

RTFM !!!

(sorry - couldnt resist !)

RTFM?

Is R for Read and M for Map?....if so I've worked the rest out!

Dan

Read The F**king Manual....... or RTFM, which sounds much nicer.

Having said that, I find the volume controls on my Columbus to be a black art. Most sources have at least two different sliders, which I thought were meant to configure a volume offset. i.e. You could configure the navigation announcements to always be a certain percentage louder than the playing source (so you could hear them). I've tried adjusting them every way I can think of, and they still don't seem to do what I expect. The manual is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, when it comes to describing what each slider does.

Has anyone else found this?

I'm sure you could have resisted, but that RTFM comment, coming from you, is absolutely priceless! :)

I have to admit that the volume controls were the only thing that did cause me to reach for the manual, for all the good it did me.

Page 11 of the manual was most illuminating......NOT!

Volume, such a simple concept, unless it's on a Columbus. I think I might take some screenshots to demonstrate what I'm talking about, as the controls just don't do what I expect them to.

The other thing I find really annoying is that the 'dynamic' setting for navigation volume does not stick when you select it. It works for the current journey, but no subsequent journeys. If I select it, then I want it to stay that way, until *I* turn it off.

That is the same with the order of the adresses in your memory. I specially numbered them so it would be most important first.

Now I have to order them alfabetically every time or scroll down to the last ones.

Both are a couple of touches too many.

As ever, the system could do some updating (or personal preferences it would keep in its memory)

no idea what you mean Ray. I have read the manual from cover to cover, even before I got the car !!;)

This is definitely the easiest way of doing it, no menus, just wait for the voice or request a command and then turn down the volume, thanks magic62.

Another thing I've noticed is how brilliant the park assist is, in another thread someone had posted that the required space is too big...I have not found that at all, I'm very impressed....I ordered it as a toy but have already found myself genuinely using it.

Yep! The first time I tried it, it made me wince because of how tight it was to the car in front when backing into the space. :)

I was exactly the same, it really is the icing on the cake for an already brilliant car.
