Lead installation problems

Featured Replies

I bought this lead off Ebay for checking my Mk1 Octavia out BUT can't get my laptop to recognise the lead or at least VAG-COM won't recognise it anyway. When I press test it says "Port Status OK, Interface not found" even though its plugged in, USB is selected and the drivers are installed (I think). Has anyone else bought a similar lead and had this problem? Cheers, Taff

try a search... You need to select one of the com ports not usb in vagcom. Assuming your using XP you need to go into device manager and see what port the lead has been assigned and change it if it's not between 1 and 4 and then select the appropriate port in vagcom. Choosing force dumb mode may help.

Go on save a kitten there are many threads on this on here. And I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you you should have bough a proper lead because then there's no problems connecting it...

How much is the proper lead? Its a USB lead, the one I bought so it will surely have to be USB on port selection?

trundlenut is right. it may be USB but it emulates com so check above as trundlenut mentioned and it will prob work fine.

The lead you have is a serial/usb converter the computer thinks it is a serial port i.e. com 1-4.

A proper lead is £200 for one which will work on the mkI see here for more info. This means you can use the latest version of the software and do more stuff than just the shareware version which is what works with your lead.
