De-cat or sport cell?

Featured Replies

Been looking for a de-cat for my vrs but been told that it will bring up engine man light. Has anyone had a de-cat done and have you had any problems? Also been told that only use green cotton air filter as they are the only one that dont kill your air flow meter. Any truth in this????? What other engine mods would you do?

i would run a sports cat as it will then still passs mot and there is no real gain running without one.....

the filter thing is a load of tosh mate

mods i would do mate would be on the suspension and a remap

A decat will fail the MOT. Even a 100cel sports cat is marginal, so I'd recommend a 200cel. Of course, there's no real point running a sports cat without a free-flow system.

Suspension next - Koni FSDs, and maybe lowering springs.

Brakes - with a vRS, fast road pads, but don't get Green Stuff: Ferodo, Mintex or Pagid are the way to go.

Filter - If you're using a cotton gause filter, don't over-oil it! Or think about a Carbonio CAI. Looks good, sounds good, and even frees up some room in the engine bay!

Finally, remap. With the zorst and filter done, spend out on having a custom map done.

no need to custom map a generic will be fine mate

coilovers can be had for around 400 thats a start......

"IF" it comes from the right tuner it might be, but better in the long run to pay the extra couple of quid and get it custom mapped by a reputable, reliable tuner to the way "YOU" want it to drive.

AP coilovers and Ferodo DS2500 pads all round with a good brake fluid such as Silkolene proRace 2000 should be first, together with a Neuspeed 28mm rear anti roll bar.

Thanks for that info think i will sort out the brakes first as they are fooked! Then i will start with the breathing of her. I got a friend at Auto rads in sheffield that does remaps so will be seeing him in the near future as well. Got a few subtle mods that i will be doing when the weather get better so will keep you all posted. Thanks again oh what disks would you recomend?

Tarox G88's discs all round with Tarox fast road pads, I had them on my old Octy vRS and with the Silkolene brake fluid they are fantastic.

Ferdodo DS 2500 pads are also very good.

No fade what so ever.

Where can Ferodo DS 2500's be purchased online? I've seen them on Ebay but I'm always sceptical of stuff from there  Also what's the general opinion of EBC Redstuff?

Demon Tweeks and since your green look in the freedom section for a way to get discount 10%

They were around £121 delivered with the discount.

where is a good place to buy brake fluid then? as i really need to flush mine as its a bit overdue.

Anywhere that sells a recognisable brand of DOT 4.0 Rich. You are aware of the Octy's different bleeding order?

Cool shall be shopping soon, I wont be doing it as its one area that scares me if i get it wrong then it could all go very badly into a corner.

think ill either get APS or if im feeling cheap ill get my mate to do it and supply the bits.

If your mate does it use a pressure bleeder DO NOT use the pump the pedal technique. It can cause issues with the master cylinder :o
