Clue from 4CAR about next Octavia 4*4 ?

" Volkswagen has also announced new-generation 4MOTION (four-wheel drive) models. These will initially come with the 1.9 TDI (105bhp) and 2.0 TDI (140bhp) diesel engines, with a 2.0 FSI (150bhp) petrol version coming on sale in Europe shortly. As with previous 4MOTION models, the electronically-controlled Haldex transmission splits engine power between the front and rear axles according to driving conditions; VW says that the system is more sensitive, quicker and quieter than before, as well as less demanding to maintain - gearbox oil changes are now needed only every 60,000km instead of every 30,000km, and filters every four years. The 4MOTION models can tow 1500kg, and options include a extra underbody guard, a stiffer shock absorber set-up and suspension set 20mm higher. UK availability and pricing of these models will be announced at a later date. "

Sounds good , but so does the competition ...it will all depend on price .

Yes, read that too. But the new Golf 4Motions also carry some fat a***s, as they are 158 kgs heavier than their FWD equivalents - compare the Octavia 4x4 which is 115 kgs heavier than a standard Octy, which in turn is slightly heavier than a standard Golf. Also the boot capacity is terrible. The cars lost 75 litres of the original 350 - compare to the 4x4's 100 litres to the original 528/548 litres.

So is the new Haldex using lead driveshafts and a king-size rear diff or what?

So no 3.2V6 DSG or 3.0TDi Octavia then ?!

2.0 TDI L&K Estate 4x4 Please, looks like we might get the 4x4 Oil Burner but the L&K isnt an option at present on the new Octy, anyone know if its likely they will bring back the L&K spec ?

Well, it's back on the updated Fabia - at least here in Holland...
