New VRS owner with a few questions.

Featured Replies

Hello there,

Picked up my VRS last week and I'm well impressed. However, I have a few questions to ask you people that I don't seem able to find answers to in the manual.

Firstly, do the doors double lock? I tried, but seem to have deactivated the immobiliser (no red light on driver's door lock). Got it back again with a single press.

Is the red light on the radio also linked to the immobiliser or just radio security?

The rear window lock (on driver's door panel) doesn't seem to work all the time. Is this common, or do I just need to give it time?

Wing mirror adjustment switch: When I set it on 'R' it adjusts both mirrors at the same time. Is this normal? Found something about this in manual, but referred to 'L' setting.

Does 'Auto' setting on climate control mean air con on, and 'Econ' air con off?

Sorry to ask so many questions on my first post as a Skoda owner, but I've been a Toyota boy for so long I don't feel particularly confident about other makes. Hopefully, that will change. Thanks for any help.

Hello there,

Deadlocks automatically no double pressing - it's not a vauxhall (as SWMBO fond out when I locked her in once)

Not sure on this, I think it only does it when locked - I've changed the radio in mine.

The rear window lock (on driver's door panel) doesn't seem to work all the time. Is this common, or do I just need to give it time?

That doesn't sound right to me, there could be water getting into the electrics in the door (possibly)

Wing mirror adjustment switch: When I set it on 'R' it adjusts both mirrors at the same time. Is this normal? Found something about this in manual, but referred to 'L' setting.

This is normal, handy for reversing into parking spaces. The manual in mine was translated by someone how spoke neither czech or english so it is indicative rather than right - my car has a radin rather than a radio...

Does 'Auto' setting on climate control mean air con on, and 'Econ' air con off?

Yes, just like my old Celica.

No worries ;)

Mine has L, L+R and Heated options..... but yes it seems common for R to adjust both mirrors in one go. There seem to be a variety of switches around.

and about ur rear window lock switch, mine dont work either and skoda said that water might have got into it or the switch has failed, but a new one from skoda is £68, or if u go breakers and get one fron an normal octavia (dosent have to be vrs)

i changed mine and now my windows lock and dont go down

Yes, just like my old Celica.

sorry let me get this right when econ is on the air con is off???? thought the econ was an economicall way for running the car with the air con on??

i was told have it on high to clear the screen quicker, and have it on low for the aircon to kick in and the econ just slows it a bit so u dont loose ur mpg,

Re mirrors - does it do that thing where you can adjust the left one independently, but when you adjust the right one it moves them both?

If so, this can be changed from the multi-function display menu.

There should be a rocker switch on the right hand control stalk (the wiper stalk). Hold the top half of the switch in when the car is stationary and the menu will appear in front of you on the MFD. From here you can change the language, whether the clock uses 12 or 24 hour settings etc etc. There is also an option to change whether the mirrors move independently or together, so you can disable the feature if you prefer, meaning that when you move the right mirror the left one will stay put.

Re the rear window lock, the only point you might not have thought about is that it does ONLY lock the rear windows. I tried it when I first picked my car up, with SWMBO in the front passenger seat. I put her window down in the freezing cold on the motorway and then pressed the lock button, thinking I was being devious, but she was able to put it straight back up again. Checked it with the back ones later, and it does lock them.

Re aircon - as I understood it "auto" meant that the climate control held the temperature in the car at whatever you had set it at. To get the aircon on "cold" you keep turning the temp down below 16 degrees, and then the readout changes to "LO" and the fans go right up and you get frozen!

HTH. Enjoy the car.
