VRS buying advice please

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have not been on the site since 2006 when I had my Octavia VRS mk1 then went to the dark side (vauxhall).

I am currently on the market for a used petrol Mk 2 VRS but need some help with options and, some of these questions might seem silly but here goes:

1, Am i right in saying 17" wheels were standard and 18" were an optional upgrade

2, Are rear parking sensors are an option at purchase?

3, Do they all have an arm rest or just the ones with the 'jumbo box' as an option? if they do what is a jumbo box?

4, Is the tyre pressure monitor standard or an option?

5, I do know maxidot is an option as is satnav

6, Is the standard CD/cd changer player an MP3 player also?

7, Do any have steering wheel audio controls?

8, I am aware climate control is an option.

9, Were rear electric windows and option or standard like the mk1?

10, Are there any other options I need to be aware of ie auto dim mirrors, front sensors etc?

Looking at an 2006 model, also have the mk3 Occys had any effect on the market for the Mk2's. I see 2006 models are about 9-10K

Thanks for all your help, just so I know what I am looking for when I view.

Cheers Ady

1, Am i right in saying 17" wheels were standard and 18" were an optional upgrade

-Yes 18 inch wheels were an option.

2, Are rear parking sensors are an option at purchase?

- Yes these were also an option.

3, Do they all have an arm rest or just the ones with the 'jumbo box' as an option? if they do what is a jumbo box?

- You only get an armrest with the jumbo box. The jumbo box is basically an armrest storage box with an mp3 connection inside. If the car has the jumbo box it means the rear passengers get face vents (in the back of the jumbo box).

4, Is the tyre pressure monitor standard or an option?

- The tyre pressure monitor is standard.

5, I do know maxidot is an option as is satnav

- Maxidot and satnav are both options.

6, Is the standard CD/cd changer player an MP3 player also?

- The standard "stream Mp3" headunit will play mp3 discs in the headunit but not in the cd changer in the boot.

7, Do any have steering wheel audio controls?

- Nope

8, I am aware climate control is an option.

- Yes dual zone climate was an option.

9, Were rear electric windows and option or standard like the mk1?

- Rear electric windows were an option

10, Are there any other options I need to be aware of ie auto dim mirrors, front sensors etc?

- Depending on the year I think options avaliable were, xenons with headlight washers, cruise control, heated seats?, auto dimming internal mirror, auto wipers, rear parking sensors.

On 08 models I think a lot of the options became standard (18's, jumbo box, dual zone climate, cruise, rear elec windows)

You should be able to get an 06 vRS between 9-10K, I picked up a 56 plate one at the end of December in this budget.

Agree with all of above. 18" wheels, rear electrics and jumbo box were added as a package deal on more recent models, so anything on a 57 or 08 will have them. If not, ask where they are!

Generally petrols go for £1000ish less than the comparable diesel. I paid £12k for an 07 plate diesel in Dec 08. Had 6000 miles on it. Prices good at the moment.

4, Is the tyre pressure monitor standard or an option?

- The tyre pressure monitor is standard.

I'm only calling this one as being wrong because my (MY2006) VRS doesn't have them :)

oops, didn't realise this, my mistake.

in 6 months the new facelifted vRS is coming out therefore the 2006 model will be much cheaper then...if you are finding them now 9-10k, i assume in 6 months you can find them easily 3k cheaper...of course if you can wait 6months time you can buy even a mid 2007model for 9-10k with many of the options you want...

Should do as all MkII vRS had a TPM as standard  ....................... will be reset switch underneath your climate/ventilation controls.

If a car is fitted with the center armrest (Jumbo Box) then it will have rear electric windows and dual zone climate fitted too as it was all part of a 'pack' (there is a caveat to this though as some dumb dealers didn't always spec the cars up properly when ordering so some did slip through without the full complement of extras!).

If you are looking for a secondhand example then make sure it has the above along with 18" alloys, Rear Parking Sensors and Maxidot as a bare minimum but other desirable options would be Xenons, Light Assist/Rain Sensor and Auto Dimming Mirror.

MFD2/3 and Cruise Control can be retro fitted quite easily so not essential with the car.

Worth mentioning that you only get the 'AUX' input for MP3 players fitted in the Jumbo box when the Stream MP3 headunit is fitted. Not sure when this was changed to an MP3 compatible headunit; think it was later in 2006, or maybe even 2007.

Happy hunting

If it's of any benefit to you, I've got a 2006 Diamond Silver vRS TFSi that has got 45k on the clock and has got the usual upgrades, cruise control and parking sensors. But no maxi-dot.

I've got it up for £8,995 and it's good condition for it's age.

It'd take you just under 3 hours to get to me and I'd take something in part exchange if it helps.

oops, didn't realise this, my mistake.

My bad, Makefish is quite correct.

I'd always assumed the 2 digital readouts were for the TPM but, obviously now I think about it, these are the dual climate temp settings - which I don't have

I'll shut up now.

My car has all the spec you are looking for - make me an offer!

I thought the facelift was out now hence why I asked about MK 2 current values, if this is the case I may wait a few months, the only one I have seen of interest was a silver 56 reg VRS I found using the Skoda uk used car search & autotrader. 21500k, 18" alloys & arm rest for £9K.

Some 07 plate cars also have this pack as standard.

I ordered mine in May 2007 and that deal was available then.

Columbus Sat Nav available from Sarj at UV Worldwide Leicester. About £1100

Fitted for £50 at his mates shop Autotronics. (about an hour)

He can supply Skoda Auto unit.

You need one of these. MP3 from 30gb HDD, CD, DVD, Radio, SD card, Sat Nav (Europe), TV if you want, BlueTooth if you want. Touch screen is so goooood.

This is a very helpful thread for another prospective VRS 07-on buyer, thanks people!

Alternatively, £700-800 for the Columbus from some reliable eBay traders, whom others on here have used with no problems

Steve

I have not looked for a while, but Sarj may be selling on E-Bay at a lower price.

Say you saw him here and get the price down.

Its always good to see the unit working (£800 is a lot for the wrong unit or not working) and if you have it fitted they can update your system I think with VAGCOM.

You will need a new surround though from a Skoda dealer £12 ish.
