Mums Car

Featured Replies

Okay, I don't know what to do with this one. My mum has managed to break her car and is really upset about it (has always been reliable up until now)

It's a Peugot (No Jokes please!) 206 1.1 (54 reg). My mum went out yesterday and decided to check the coolant (fine) and top up her screenwash. After doing this the EML light is on, the engines running as rough as a badgers backside and is missing/popping. Mum tried to drive it and it does like 5mph.

Told her to leave it alone until I can take a look on Saturday. My only theory of how this could have happened is that she has accidentally spilt screenwash on an electrical connection in the engine bay and this has upset the ECU

Does anyone know if I can use my VAG-COM 402 K-Line cable on it to get a fault code, is there a Pug equivelent to VAG-COM?

Sounds odd. Certainly worth looking around the screen wash bottle for any suspect wires, alternatively she might of disturbed a connector when filling up... on the other hand it is French! ;)

Worth giving VAG-COM a go, I believe it can read faults from ODBII compatible cars (should be all petrol cars after 2001), but obviously can't make any changes. There is Peugeot equivalent software about but is very expensive. Hopefully VAG-COM can read the codes for you

She didn't spill liquid over the HT system did she?

She didn't get confused and put the screen wash in the coolant bottle by accident?:rofl:

i bet its the coil pack, sold loads when i worked for pug

First thing I checked, especially with this being my mum:D

All the symptoms say coilpack as suggested, but it's well freaky that it worked fine until she topped up her screenwash.

I think spilling liquid on the HT system is likely, my mums a bit heavy handed with anything mechanical, probably splashed it all over the place

I cant to it until saturday, so I just planned to check all connections in the engine bay, try using VAG_COM to scan for codes (If it works), and check the electrics for dampness.

Failing that it looks like it's going to a garage, unless theres anything else I can check beforehand

Coil pack sounds like the culprit. Just ring the RAC, they keep them on board :)

Mum just got a mechanic out (She couldnt wait any longer), and yes, turned out to be a coilpack, thanks for everyones help and advice

To be fair, I like the 206 and as a VAG Product owner im in no position to say anything about coil packs:D

P.S Is that a joke or do they really carry coil packs with them?

No they really do carry them.

I had 2 on the 2.0T vRS I had, both times he had one on the wagon. Had one when going to Alton Towers in my friends Megane, again they replaced it at the roadside.
