PTFE, Teflon, etc.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

while just gathering info on add-on lubricants, I didn't find the amount of oil which is in:

- 6 gears manual gearbox;

- differential;

- power steering wheel

Does anybody know?

TIA

The six speed manual gearbox has an oil capacity of 2.3l

The rest are for 4 wheel drive models only

The rear final drive has a capacity of 0.95l

The Capacity Haldex coupling holds 0.85l

the Changing capacity haldex coupling holds 0.65l

Not sure on the power steering unit

Well,

it's a debated theme. There are lots of users reporting wonders and other reporting tragedies. In Italy there is a product (Sintoflon) reporting good results...

1) 2.5 litres (little will drain off)

2) 0 (same as the gearbox oil on 2wd)

3) None.

Can't understand 2) and 3). No oil in differential :rofl:? Is our power steer only electrical?

2) with the 2wd cars, there is no differential so no oil. Only the 4wd has a differential

Ok,

so problem is my perhaps poor english. Do you mean the differential is built in the gearbox?

This is better solution than any PTFE additive:

Products - GearProtect

I using that in my O2 2,0 TDI (11/2007) six months ago, and that additive is great.

Gear changes are softer (especially 2-nd and 3-rd).

I contact Liqui Moly company before, and they told me, that additiv is fully compatibile with all VAG manual gearboxes. They test gear protect in whole company car fleet.

And one recommendation... if you have <50k km, don't change oil in gearbox, only put additive into existing oil.

The 'differential' on 2wd is part of the gearbox, as is normal. There is no oil in the power steering as it is electric.

Thank you,

There is a reason the manufacturers dont use these products

Good quality oil is all you need

Using friction modifiers can actually make a right mess of the gear box as they syncro etc rely on a certain amount of friction. A lot of these products are a complete waste of time.

Yup!

I bet that, of course, % dilution has to be followed. And what is a "Good quality oil" is a debating issue...

Well don't come crying when your gearbox takes a dump and your engine seizes due to blocked up oilways. :)

Agreed ;)

BTW Products are by Sintoflon: www.sintoflon.com.

Kind regards,
