Will these tyres fit?

Featured Replies

I recently got hold of 2 Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres in 225/50/17 at a very reasonable price, cheap cheap.

Will these fit onto VRS Octavia wheels? Answers on a thread reply..

You need 225/45/17, a 50 profile tyre on the front will introduce speedo error. You could put them on the back but they will look a little odd.

I have 225/45/17 on the back at the minute and 205/50/17 on the front and you wouldn't really notice the difference. I'm more worried about them actually fitting and the legality as MOT looms..

225/50 are going to be a fair bit bigger that 205/50

225/50 side wall = 112.5mm

205/50 side wall = 102.5mm

So a 10mm difference, might be enough to cause some ABS issues.

No problems with the MOT providing the ABS light isnt on.

225/50 will stand about a centimeter taller than 225/45. Leagally I think they are ok on the rear but you cannot go larger on the front though I know this applies to width but unsure about height.

Beaten to it again by Ross  and I hadn't even considered the ABS in the equation

Legally you can go larger on the front should you desire, as long as the tyres are paired on each axle there is no problems.

Thats handy to know. Its the 225 Goodyears on the back that will need replacing soon anyway so I might put them on there in the meantime as long as I have no fouling issues to get it through the MOT and I will see what it looks like. At £55 for 2 it would be a shame not to..

A bit o/t?, but I've been told by a number of sources that it's illegal to fit wider tyres on the front than the rear. I don't remember anything about higher profiles front than rear or vice versa, but suspect that's legal either way.
