Clutching at Straws.......... (clutch related!)

Featured Replies

Right i'm totally confused!

Since I plugged in my Dragon Tuning box I have suffered from excessive clutch slip in 4th and 6th. I wasnt been over exuberant with the power - I was feeding it in slowly until 2500-3000rpm, then a bit harder and it just kept slipping no matter how gentle I was. 5th was fine - no slippage. Then up into 6th and instant slippage no matter how I tried to feed the power in.

So clutch is going to need replaced - this is where I get confused. I have spent 2hrs lastnight reading up on threads from my search on Fabia Clutches and what the Pros and Cons are.

This is what I get:-

DMF is vibration absorber

Definately no point putting a std clutch in (going for more power eventually)

Paddle clutch probably not a good idea for daily driver

Spec, Helix & Sachs all do kits for the Fabia

SMF are avaialble in Alloy or Steel depending on manufacturer

Some clutch shatter with clutch out at tickover with SMF

SMF may cause other damage.

Please give me some help! let me know what you have, how much it cost and the pro's and con's. I'm not a strip junkie and 4000rpm launches in 2nd arent going to be for me! I just want something progressive which is going to withstand maybe 200bhp and 350lb/ft.

I have your figures and run a Sachs clutch on the std flywheel. Had these in 3 Fabias now and also had the Spec in one. I have been in a car with the SMF and it is noisy at idle and vibrates, I do a lot of miles and that was not for me. I would buy a Sachs clutch over the Spec, as it has a better feel. I did have to have my map restricted to bring the torque in later as the DMF juddered at below 2000 rpm but this ca be driven round ( ihave got nearly 400lb/ft)!

Did you replace the DMF when you fitted the Sachs fit?

What BHP are you running at Alex ?

Approx 190BHP at the moment, but with the big FMIC hopefully about 220-230BHp

FWIW The Skip has a sachs ( I think ) sintered paddle clutch and a DMF, and somewhere near 400lb/ft of torque.

I haven't experiend any judder ( although low rev booting are not done ) no slippage at all and it's quiet and really drives like an oem car.

'Triffic really.

If Shifty couldn't kill it, I doubt anyone could...

More input?? (in a No5 Style!)

I've got a decent price for a Sachs Organic clutch & pressure plate along with a new DMF & Slave cylinder.

I've also got a quote from Awesome for a Helix, which seems a bit more expensive than what other people have been quoting for the same kit from a different supplier - but still within the budget (by £3!)

Not sure what to go for yet!
