is this all of what i need to buy to get vcds software downloaded to my computer, so enable me to fiddle and check faults etc

No thats for pre Can-Bus cars

You need VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface: Ross-Tech Store

The more expensive one as your car uses the can system

Notice the word CAN in both the titles.

Hedge, I already have a K-line interface that is many moons old. I take it i could just buy the Micro Can as i dont need an extra cable for the older cars.

I think it is also possible to do an upgrade.

Correct, if one has an older Ross-Tech interface OR a genuine software license an upgrade would be the best way to do it. For compatibility you may wanna check these charts, they show the non-US models as well.

If that's your plan then go for it. It's a very simple and painless process from past experience but admittedly that was some time ago now since I last ran Linux. I have a 2017 Asus X555 (I think it is) that's now redundant but serviceable I was thinking of wiping the SSD and installing Linux on. Might be worthy of a topic in the Tech Shed for more input. Neigbour with a Fabia Mk4 called me recently, his drivers door and the rear (right) passenger doors were partly open with what looked like a stainless steel rod jamming the two doors in their partly open/closed positions, to make a long story short, it was the door umbrella that apparently had shot out somehow or other and jammed the two doors, he had partially opened the back door to let his dog out I think and had let his own door partially open, or something like that. One of the things I miss in my TDi vRS Mk 3 is the CD player in the boot that I had in the much-missed Mk 2. Has anyone had any experience of a separate CD player in the car playing back through the "Media" part of the infotainment system? I do have music in my Galaxy A26 phone but I can't seem to get it to play albums in the car, it will only play one single track at a time.

Hi, so I've bought a superb from 2012 that has the Bolero radio unit, it works fine but the Bluetooth has been very annoying with the way it functions. The main problem is that when I start the car and my phone connects to BT and I play music, the radio doesn't show song information and touch controls on the screen don't "activate". Now the frustrating part is that if I then disconnect my phone and reconnect it everything works as intended, i can change songs and it shows what song is playing.

Hi. I know there's a 'considering buying' forum but this is about an oldie so I thought this may be a better place to post...(a query for the long committed fans?)? I already have a 2005 Octavia Estate (1.9TDI PD105) and it is by a country mile the BEST car I have EVER owned. I bought it in 2013 for <£2.5k and apart from needing to do the clutch straight away it hasn't needed much over the 80k miles I've done in it since.
