Help please..... Faulty pressure washer???

Featured Replies

Hey up all,

I've got a Karcher k3.80 pressure washer which has started acting a little differently. It has the function where by when you initially switch it on it builds up pressure then the compressor stops untill you pull the trigger on the gun at which point the karcher fires up the compressor. Once you let go of the trigger the compressor cuts out again till ou next pull the trigger.

Well mine has started continually firing up the compressor every two or three seconds or so for about half a second at a time and does this constantly untill you pull the trigger when it fires up like normal. Once you let go of the trigger it then goes back to firing up every couple seconds instead of stopping all together.

I thought it was the connector on the end of the garden ose that was knackered as it was old so have swapped that for a brand new one but it's still the same.

Anybody got any ideas on anything else i can try???

From my very limited knowledge it would seem that there's a leak or something somewhere hence the compressor constantly coming on to re-pressurise???

Cheers

Dave.

I have taken a few Karchers apart and you can get a number of problems.

1. If you live in an area with hard water you can get a problem with a build up of limescale which can cause the valve things inside to not seat properly so it looses pressure. Basically the pressure pushes the water back out of the inlet.

2. The older ones were made of metal wereas the newer ones are mainly plastic which isn't as strong and can crack, again losing pressure.

3. You can get problems with the valve/sensor thing that controls when it switches on and off. My dad had this with one he had and he got it repaired by a bloke who specialises in pressure washers. Didn't cost that much. The guy was in Derby which is probably not much use to you unfortunately.
