Octavia I - vRS - worth going for a warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Bought a 2003 Skoda Octavia vRS today from a dealer with a low 28k on it.

Question is - the dealer is offering a 3 year warranty that includes cover of most mechanical parts including the turbo for £295. Reckon this is worth it? Or should I just stick with the supplied 3 month one?

The leaflet states the following cover:

Parts covered

-------------------

During the specified period all of the original manufacturer's mechanical and electrical components of the vehicle are insured against breakdown except those listed under exclusions. Full terms and conditions as set out in the policy document.

Cover includes:

Turbo/supercharger (factory fitted)

Air conditioning (factory fitted)

Timing belts - Providing there is proof that the manufacturer's replacement recommendations have been complied with and they are free from oil contamination.

Exclusions

----------------

Chassis, bodywork, interior and exterior trim, locks, glass, tyres, batteries, exhaust systems, fuel tanks, brake friction material, wiring looms, road wheels, clearing of fuel lines, injectors, oil seals, sat nav, seized brake calipers and other service items, heater elements, centralised locking pumps, car telephone, air bags, sensors, keys, AC recharging, antifreeze, lubricants, filters, transmission fluids, external oil or fluid leaks, hardware- e.g. bolts/fixings, pulleys/dampers, serviceable and ancillary items, instrument gauges (if an entire cluster).

Cheers,

Mike

Is it a skoda warrenty, or an independent one.......?

The price sounds good for 3 yrs

But it's how much hassle you get when trying too claim, plus you usually have too pay for the diagnosis.

There again if it's a blown engine you wouldn't mind paying for the diag on that I guess.

What are the policies excesses, and what is the claim limit for anyone item?? Also is there a clause including the dreaded words 'except where breakdown is shown to be caused by normal wear and tear' ??

Cheers for the replies so far.

It's an independent warranty - provided by http://www.wmswarranty.com

Read up on a few other forums, looks like people have had difficulties with them. In one case a guy had a dodgy piston ring and the warranty inspector claimed it was wear and tear......

Think i'll not bother unless anyone has any other thoughts.

Price is good for 3 years, we paid £170 last summer for a 12 month warranty on my sisters car.

I got a 12 month one for free on mine, but only used it once, to cover fixing the brake light switch. I've had a few other things like front ARB and door handle cable, but they couldn't be claimed under warranty as were "wear and tear" items

Price looks good, but there's not a whole lot covered.

warranty direct ment to be only one worth getting covers wear and tear.
