Replacing the Tape player with a Symphony

Featured Replies

Hi

My friend has a 53 reg Comfort with the standard tape player. He wants to upgrade to a Symphony CD player, I was going to sell him mine when I replaced it with my old MD player from my last car but in the end didn't change it. What problems does he have to sort out, ie how to remove the old player, are the exisiting conectors compatible, is the Cd Player keyed to the ECU. Any information is much appreciated. Also anyone wanting to sell thier CD player get in touch. He really doesn't want to buy a new one

Thanks

Heath

Has your mate considered getting an autochanger - eg Sony. There are interface units which allow the standard skoda head unit to work the 'changer.

One can then have the flexibility of tape together with cds stored in the changer out of sight in the boot.

However I do not speak from experience only considering doing it myself sometime.

Those interface units are (or at least were a year ago) quite expensive (think

The old tape player is removed with two keys (the same as the CD Player ones).

Slot the new unit in after connecting it up, code it up with your old code for that unit (should be in the radio handbook, if not PM me and ill get you it) and away you go.

Simple as that.

If he ends up buying a non Skoda sourced CD player, be aware that Skoda (VAG) wiring is odd and you usually have to swap wires around to avoid the stereos memory being lost every time you turn the car off.
