Thinking of buying a Superb - Should I?

Featured Replies

Hello

I have been reading these forums for a while now, i'd like to say thanks for all the useful information on here!

I need to change from a Vauxhall Astra and have been looking at the Superb, i can't justify the cost of a new Superb, maybe one day!

Have found a car with less than 15,000 on the clock with a price tag of just over £12,000. It is a facelifted 2.0 (140bhp) Elegance, is this a good price?

I have read about all the various problems, DPF etc. I would be looking to keep this car for about 4-5 years, i will be doing about 38,000 miles in the coming year but droping to about 10,000 miles after that.

Do you think i am doing the right thing or is it a mid life crisis?! The car does sound amazing, going for a test drive soon.

I have no experience of the MFD sat nav, is it a good system? How does it compare to the Vauxhall sat nav system, i thought this was good, but basic. I have looked for a video on you tube, but don't seem to have any there.

Is it worth updating the sat nav disc?

Because i will be keeping the car for a few years, how does the Skoda extended warranty work, is it any good? I assume it is the standard one extended with the same things covered? Is it worth thinking that the car will be worth anything in 4-5 years or is it best to write it off in terms of a residual value?

Apologies for the questions, but i am hoping for some help. Thank you :)

Welcome :)

I am in the process of buying an 08 (old shape) delivery mile elegance which is still factory wrapped. I negotiated the price and for just a tad more money (over the car you mentioned with 15k on the clock,) I have managed to get a brand new one.

There are several around on autotrader that are priced to sell, the list price was 12,995 however I managed to get a discount on that. Some dealers are trying to sell them at 13,795 (I think) but a couple have put them on at lower prices.

I recommend you have a look because you might well be able to get a similar deal and get more value for your money :)

I personally chose to buy an aftermarket Kenwood sat nav / audio / dvd system, as I fancied a slightly more modern audio unit. There are some very good deals to be had online, just ignore the 880GBP price tag in one certain store, the same unit can be had for nearly half the price.

I have not even seen the actual car I'm buying yet, the dealer only just received it today.

Can't wait.

Hope that helped.

Nothing do with me, guv'nah.

Just thought I'd mention it as that store was the first place I looked to see if I could afford one.... I nearly had a heart attack lol :)

Didn't you see the sign that says "customers with weak hearts should refrain from entering the store"? ;)

You're right - we're cheaper than most on a lot of units. Sadly the Kenwood isn't one of them. Hence why I haven't got one yet! :D

.

How did you get on.... looking at one of those myself...:)

Lovely car overall and one very happy owner at this time :)

Still can't get over how much space there is! Its nice to know my passengers are in comfort, rather than being crammed in (like my Jag).

It certainly seems to put the mother in law further away.....

Sorry to spam the thread which unit is it? I wouldn't mind upgrading from the factory one in my 2.5TDi Elegance if it would fit as a replacement with no hassle.

Kenwood DNX5220 try a google search and check prices. The cheapest I found was £499 and I got another store to price match. Not installed it yet, but looks a great bit of kit.

Can't wait until Monday night, get to take the Superb for a motorway blast / cruise up to work :D

Cheers, 2 questions- Does it fit straight into the space where the VAG sat nav fits? And does it work with the standard VAG 6 CD changer? Thanks.

AFAIK the original CD changer won't work with aftermarket units, however, if you get a unit with an SD card slot, you then have a 30 disc per 2mb card jukebox, hth.

Much obliged, thanks.
