Climatronic - Can regulate inside temperature

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

My car is a 2002 L&K 1.8T (AGU engine)

My A/C works OK trowing cold air but when I want to regulate the temperature inside the cab I usually press the red button on the climatronic display and set it on 22º and for me is a confortable temp.

For several days I have the following problem: I am trying to regulate the the temperature inside the cab and inclusive putting it on 27º it keep trowing A/C cold Air, inclusive I keep pressing the red button until the display read HI and it keep trowing A/C cold Air.

Its look like the A/C thermostat is not working. Do this mean that the A/C Compressor is working all time without stoping? Or do the climatronics regulate the temperature opening a flap door and alowing cold air to exit outside the cab?

I dont have a VAG COM, Can anybody let me know what to check? Or what can be the problem?

THX,

Isaac

Mine throws cold air when the outside or inside temperature is above the demand temperature (and here you get both occasions sometimes). So check the ambient temperature readout.

Next, the 2 small grilles on the Climatronic control panel get blocked with dust, so take a vacumn cleaner to them.

Now, do the semi-random poking at the mode control buttons, in case the controls in the mixer box just need exercising.

If none of this has worked, I think you have a stuck servo flap and/or failed motor, in the mixer box.

GOOD CALL, I going to chek does 2 small grilles

Just curious. Do this mean that the Climatronic regulated the inside temperature with openig a flap door and allowing the cold air to scape to the outside?

No. Many modern car heaters are hot all the time, once the engine has warmed up of course. A flap is operated inside the heater box to allow more or less cooler air to mix with the hot air around the heater matrix. More air and the temperature is lowered, less air and the inside of the car warms up.

The other type is the old fashioned heater valve which is fitted in the heater feed or return hose. When opened coolant flows through the heater matrix. When closed it's blocked off and the heater goes cold.......

yep the air intake passes over the air con evaporator always, this provides dehumidification provided the ac is on then is routed through the heater maxtrix via diverter flaps to provide the desired vent temp, which climatronic calculates based on the difference between inside temp and desired set point taking into account some other factors like sun intensity.

So maybe my problem can be that a diverter flaps door is not working and it not allowing hot air from the heater to mix with the cold air to regulate the temperature.

Do you guys know what number/part exactly I need to check?

Almost certainly a divertor flap isn't, if the 2 more or less free suggestions I made don't work. To sort out which, part numbers, and how to fix you'd need a fairly full version of VAGCom, and a better maintenance manual than I have.
