Sky HD ..is it always this reliable

Featured Replies

Only had Sky HD for a few weeks ...so far it has stopped recording sometimes for no reason ....three times it has put bright red streaks round the highlights of the picture and today it decided to inform me it had no signal :eek::mad: swmbo phoned sky and they went through all the things over the phone before booking an engineer for ....Saturday :thumbdwn: ...so when I got home I tried the one thing they didn't try over the phone and has got rid of all the other faults.......and .......it .......worked........amazing how doing something simple like unplugging and then plugging it back in will work when all else fails....I think I'll still let him/her come out with a new box anyway...... just in case.

It's a Samsung box by the way

looks like my Sky problem is unique to me then

Not HD though, but sky +, sounds much like yours, either sticking, or poor recording, pull the plug leave it for 2 or 3 minutes and reconnect usually fixes the problem. Happens once a month or so. Seems to progressively get worse over a week or so till it gets completely stuck. Only time it stopped working completely was when the signal splitter on the dish gave up. But that was diagnosed quite quickly, no signal what so ever.

We are on our third Sky + box now (in under 6 months) as it keeps locking up, dumping recordings (or part recording things) when it works its ace, just doesn't work all the time.

I concur with the other comments regarding the standard Sky plus box. I seemed to be forever 'switching it off and then on again' to get round problems and it appears from original post that Sky have done little to solve this on the HD model. I eventually gave up and moved to Virgin which for a year now I have had no problems with but god I miss the Sky menus and overall appearance. Cant have everything I suppose.

My Thomson HD box broke week before last due to a power supply problem, box is 18 months old and this is the first time I have had problems. Now repaired better than ever, having replaced all the capacitors in the PSU with a kit from satcure.

Sky engineer has just been out and replaced my samsung box with an amstrad one ....it's working OK so far

But do you now have the infamous contrast problem on the Amstrad box where you cannot adjust the contrast in the skybox menu. The default setting of "high" washes out a lot of picture detail and I think you will find its stuck there and cannot be adjusted. Low, Med and High are all the same on the Amstrad box. Have a look on avforums, lots of unhappy users of the amstrad box.

Not sure I would notice the difference :o it actually seems clearer than the samsung box

My poxy box keeps saying 'no satalite signal is being received'

Have to turn it off at the wall and wait 5 mins
