odd click after starting car

Featured Replies

hi I have a fabia 04 1.9 tdi estate

I have an odd thing that seems to have cropped up over last 6 months, I noticed it more in the winter (is it now spring?).

when i start the car after it's sat for a while (overnight or while i am at work) the headlights are dim and the internal fans are slow, then after 30 secs to 2 mins i hear a click on the right of the dash near the fuse box and sudenly the fans speed up and the head lights get brighter.

it sounds like a relay but i'm not sure which one to check of if there is one that would cause this.

any help would be great.

cheers

Tom

glow plug relay , obviously used more in the colder weather

Yep, deffo glow plug relay.

The glow plugs draw high current making the lights dim and fan slow down.

you know thinking about it, that would be spot on as they stay on for a short time after the car starts. thanks for pointing it out, at least i know nothing is wrong with it, although i will keep an eye on it in case it gets worse at some point

Deffo Glow Plug relay, mine does it and the engine note changes, I suppose it's the load reducing on the alternator/battery.

I presume in hotter weather they go off straight away, although even in summer, I suppose the engine in the morning is 'cold' so to speak.
