Rear camber settings

Featured Replies

Took my 06 Octy II vRS TFSI in for service today (40k miles) at main dealer - first MOT was done by them last month - only MOT advisory point was rear tyres worn on inside edge. So I asked them to check camber settings (as I understand it is a known issue with A5 platform) - they would only do this by charging me £110 up front - IF they find an issue and IF they can successfully get Skoda to pay then I will get my £110 refunded.

Has anyone else had rear camber settings checked/corrected at main dealer? Did you get charged up front in a similar way rather than work simply being done under warranty?

thanks

vRSFred

Seems a bit of a jobs worth response from the dealer, but I guess they are covering themselves in case alignment is correct in which case warranty claim might well be rejected.

Alternative is to find an independent tyre dealer who could do a 4 wheel alignment for you at a usual cost of £70 - £90.

I think they are trying to cover their backs, generally all warranty work is covered by the dealers who then claim the expense back from the manufacturer. If the manufacturer rejects the claim it leaves the dealer out of pocket.

I wouldn't be entirely happy with the situation and would suggest that you ask them to change the settings to the revised ones in given in the TSB. You may wish to say that you have a lot of tyre/road noise coming from the rear of the car. ;)

Wheel alignment is often not covered under warranty on the basis that it could have been 'knocked out' slightly due to usage (i.e. potholes, kerbing etc) - especially on an '06 car. You are also out of the two year factory warranty period and the third year may have slightly more stringent conditions (not sure ).

A local tyre place near me charges about £25 for a full laser check and about £50 if adjustments are required.

A full 4 wheel laser geo check is what you need.

I tried to get mine done under warranty and it was rejected on the basis I carry quite a bit of weight in the back which could have 'put it out' as I was told.

All this despite the car only having 5k on the clock at the time with mostly knackered rear tyres.
