Look what i've got!

Hello eevryone

Yesterday I picked up my (almost) new 2008 Octavia RS (vRS in Europe) 2.0TFSI wagon. I bought it very cheaply in Melbourne - it's 8,000kms and five months old. It has options of sunroof, satnav amd xenons. In Australia, these are very well equipped cars as standard.

I drove it the 700kms back from Melbourne yesterday and fell in love with it. I had also bought (in Melbourne) an Elegance 1.8T wagon for a friend here in Canberra. I found this one while looking for hers, and it was an offer too good to refuse. She has also fallen in love with hers, although thinks there are too many "gizmos"!

The drive back from mebourne is very boring - freeway most of t eway. But it gave me a chance to acquaint myself with the equipment - but to do that properly is going to take some doing.

I love the performance, the economy, the seats, the handling (on the few twisty roads i tried this morning), the stereo, the build quality (no rattles - eat your heart out Golf and Jetta owners), the cabin comfort, the features, the nooks for bits and pieces, the etc etc.

Dislikes? Very few. The seat tilts as you raise it so I can't get the angle correct separately from the height. Why do VAG do this - everyone else seems to provide separate cushion tilt/height adjustments? The MFD is not that easy to access the range of functions (mind you, there are heaps of functions). And Australia's draconian speed limit. It's a real real nanny state here - but that's not Skoda's fault.

Here are some pics - sorry its dirty after the drive. I'll clean it after I go out for a blast in the hills today.

Cheers

Hello eevryone

Welcome aboard powerd, I'll kep an eye peeled for you around town (and say "snap" when I see you). I love my Octy too.

Lookin good mate, cant be many yellow vrs in Aus.

At least one other in Canberra :D

Hmmm, jealous :(

I see you went for the optional water bottle attachment for the driver's door - good choice :)

Is it missing the rear windscreen wiper ? And seems to have an extra badge or sticker on the tailgate too (besides the normal Skoda, Octavia and vRS ones) ?

Do you live on Ramsay Street? It sure looks like it :)

I am jealous jealous jealous jealous ........

I was looking at the same car- you beat me to it! It was a great bargain!!! Still, it is a looong way to drive it back to Perth (and quite x-ey to ship it back).

Hope it works out well for you.

How did you go taking the car back to Canberra, did you have to drive it back unlicensed and relicense in the ACT? OH just looked at the photos and you did.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. I am really excited about this car and absolutely love it to drive. Mind you, i think the front Michelins and my licence are not long for this earth!! :D

Gregozedobe - see you round too - there is a white RS and a race blue one that I know of in Canberra. My friend in the iner north bought a (non-metallic) blue wagon 1.8T. Yes the rear wiper is missing(damaged before delivery) so it is being replaced under warranty when I get organised.

Timmy boy - the waterbottle was a freebie from the dealer and fits perfectly. I like the fact it is angled back and easy to grab.

Simbo99 - my Czech friend has already named it "Czechki Banan" which means Czech Banana. It is very yellow!!!!!!! My first choice was Race Blue, but this deal was too good to pass up. I usually hate yellow cars but this i like - it seems to suit the wagon shape. Funnily enough the Skoda promotional cars here were almost all yellow, and it seems to work well on Oz. Perhaps to do with the light? It is the most popular RS colour here. But race blue is regarded as the most desirable.

Johnno VRS - No, not Ramsay St - all Australian Sts look similar - parched, dusty and full of gum trees :). Except my short street is rare in that it has 4 Jaguars (1 XF and 4 old ones - I have two of them) and a Skoda (Skodas are rare here).

Indulis - sorry mate, but I am glad i beat you to it! If you are in Canberra, pm me and you can have a drive. Yes, it came up on a 21 day permit - will rego it today or tomorrow.

No mods are planned yet, except for some tweaks to the stereo (an amp and sub only, the existing stuff is great). But perhaps a chip-up later. But do I really need more power? I love this car as it is.

Happy Skoda-ing

Happy to hear you are enjoying your new wheels. Surprised I have not bumped into you on the road yet. Catchya round.

looks good mate. I'm picking my race blue one up today

Very pretty!

Yes I normally hate yellow too but on the wagon it looks OK.

My GF and I were saying that if I had got it we would have put a visor sticker on, with "Fleagle & Snorky" on it. You have to be a Banana Splits fan to laugh at that one! And for those that are here is the alt punk Banana Splits theme - my favourite!

). PS have to laugh with the auto-censor taking out the D I C K from the band's name, you would be spitting it if your NAME was D I C K!

I think the wagons look nice with the "blackout" on the pillars, which otherwise look quite wide on the light coloured Octavias. SKODA TUNING SHOP for Octavia, Octavia II, Fabia, Roomster, Superb, Felicia : Skoda Tuning = superskoda.com

has them for sale. There are a couple of VRS wagons with blackout pillar covers on the site.
