Drain on the battery.... big thanks Awesome Sarah!

Featured Replies

Hmmm,

well the Cooking Far decided to completely drain its battery overnight and would not start this morning. Wouldn't even run the central locking properly and had the dashboard lights flickering on and off. Battery wouldn't accept any charge, so had to have a new one fitted - ouch!:rotz: Car now starts.

Prob deosn't look like the common fault with broken wire between alternator and ecu. Took it into garage today (place behind the Hilton Hotel in Manc) and they reckon its the computer that controls the heaters etc ("comfort ecu"???),and there is still a drain on the battery. Any bright ideas anyone??:o

P.s. BIIIIG thankyou to Awesome Sarah for letting me hog her time today to pick her brains! If only you got that kind of service everywhere!:D

You had a VAG-COM scan done? Can the garage you took it to do that - sorry don't know which one you mean in Manc CC.

Other than that, any other electrical aftermarket bits fitted mate? Stereo, phone kit etc?

Can come over with VAG-COM if you think it might help you out.

Steve

Get a multimeter reading current on a 10A range inline with a battery lead, pull fuses one by one until the drain disappears.

Check the boot light etc first!.

Ahhh Buster

Thank you my dear!!!!

but donr like to see fellow Briskodian`s having problems

But hopefully you will get it sorted

The control ECU does all the central locking and electric windows , also the alarm....

So may well be down to that

Fingers crossed for you my dear ;)

Yes please for the offer of VAG-COM! I'll PM my details.

I had an Alpine aftermarket stereo fitted about a year ago, with no probs. I also had an extra 12v power socket fitted at the same time in the space in the centre console under the stereo. That was checked as they thought that was the source of the drain, but it was fine. Car had my previous Alpine fitted on its first day in my ownership.

Cheers! :D

T'was a pleasure

Forgot to add, this is the Ross-Tech Wiki link:
