vrs brake stuck

Featured Replies

Hi guys got a bit of a problem here. My dad just came home and told me his front right brake was sticking. There was actual smoke coming from the disk/pad. He got ****ed with this because 2-3 weeks ago he had the same problem, got the car booked, went to the garage and they changed the pads, checked everything and my dad paid for all this...

So now it's happened again and I fear if he goes there again they'll do the exact same thing and it will break again. What do you guys think it is ?

The calliper needs changing as well as the disks and pads, it should be obvious to any mechanic that the calliper has seized.

Well they say they checked the disc and the caliper and said those are fine...Thing is, it doesen't always do it.Sometimes it works just fine and sometimes it's broken. The mechanics at the dealership are also complete idiots. There was one time when they didn't know how to put the engine cover on...

I would be looking for another garage :(

i dont know if this would apply to a brake caliper, but basically all it is, is a hydraulic cylinder

now if i was at work and i was getting a cylinder that was occasionally jamming like that I would have said the cylinder was worn, just i've not heard of a worn brake caliper before, not like that anyway

I would be looking for another garage :(

...and my money back from the last one.

These days if the calliper piston is sticking, dealers and mechanics just change the whole calliper rather than service the existing one. Usual reason for this approach is the parts not being available to carryout the work.

I presume it takes less time to do too.

Had rear calliper sliders done a few times on my '96 clio RSI under warranty. The last time they fitted a rev C calliper set on the rears.
