Moving number plate to side?

Featured Replies

Guys, I have seen a few Fabia vRS' with the number plate below the left headlight and a grill in front of the radiator, what parts do you need to do this, is it a new front bumper or just a grill replacement and new number plate?

Hope this is clear, as below,

Thanks,

you have to remove the number plate holder from the front, cut the plastic behind it out so its nice and smoth round the edges.

get some mesh of sorts and bond it in place, usually using some kind of resin.

finally stick your plate off to the side, you can either make up a bracket, screw it in place or stick it with double sided tape.

you will have to remove the bumper to do this properly and i'm unsure what the best mesh is to use.

i want to do this myself when i get some free time and motivation.

Thats my car :D

The mesh is nice and neatly cable tied in to place ;)

Job isn't easy, but likewise if time is taken, it's not hard either

1) remove numberplate surround

2) with a sharp stanley knife, slice through the plastic part the surround attaches to. This is best done from behind. Note where it attaches and where the bit you need to leave untouched is. :)

3) Mesh (best I found is ironicaly halfords ripspeed stuff :D) can be glued on using polyurethane bonding adhseive, applied using skeleton gun. Mesh can be "lipped" to help keep straight and tight in the large gap left.

4) plate can be moved easily enough, but I went for a vinyl one to make it a little neater and glued it on with thin double sided tape. Meets the vast majority of DVLA laws on numberplates and went through MOT last week as well.
