Why wasn't it like this from the factory?

Featured Replies

Just enjoying the improved performance following a re-map. Done by Angel Tuning for a very reasonable £250 inc VAT (after a previous customer discount). Alegedly +35bhp +60ftlb (TDI) but no, I don't have graphs or rolling road data. OK, it doesn't have the flexibility of Bluefin, but if the map is ever spoiled (e.g. by a Skoda recall) Angel will re-instate for £25.

Much smoother low down, huge improvement in mid-range and very willing to rev at the top end. And no discernable effect on mpg. Feels just like my old Furby vRS (and I never though I'd be able to say that about an Octy vRS).

This is exactly how the car should have come from the factory. I know VAG say they have to de-tune to allow for poor fuel in some makets, blah, blah. But my point is, they know when a car is headed for the UK market (the steering wheel's on the other side for a start) and they know fuel in the UK is generally satisfactory. So why do we all have to put up with poor mapping in case some bloke in Latvia tries to run his Octy on chip fat?

Beats me.

Phil - is yours the PD or the CR?

Sounds good for £250, I've heard Angel Tuning are quite good. Unusual for them to charge anything for putting the map back on though, I think most of them do it for free but I could be wrong.

Glad you're pleased with it and I will probably go down this route soon.

They are also tuned for emissions and the car is designed for the power the engine produces. It allows commonality of running gear components for other engines which may be fitted.

You've upped the bhp and touched nothing else. Do this in a factory and it may mean lots of other components need changing which ups the cost, especially if they are unique to a higher output engine - no point over engineering lesser powered models as they then miss the price point.

Tuned down to extend service intervals and to cope with variable quality fuels worldwide.

Fair comment - except that the re-do includes travel to your home or place or work anywhere in the UK...

Just re-visiting this thread to give an update, as it's been nearly a month (1,800 miles) since my Angel re-map. In short, I'm lovin' it. All traces of the hesitancy/jerkiness/flat spot behaviour at low speed has gone (which, to be honest, was the main reason I went for a re-map). Overtaking abilty is vastly improved.

I've tried not to vary my driving style since the re-map to enable a realistic comparison on fuel consumption. And here's the bonus - fuel consumption has improved by 4mpg. Deffo money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

Glad you're enoying the Angel Remap Phil. I'm getting mine done on Thursday (all being well) and I can't wait :D I'm glad to hear that they seem a sound choice and I'll be reporting back on mine soon
