Just got myself these....

Being a bit of an ICE dullard whats the gen on JL Audio subs and Genesis amps? The amp looks really nice and is pretty small for its output (4 x 50w RMS) or (2 x 120w RMS), Not sure on outputs if using it to run two fronts and a sub though.

Just on the scout for some components for the front now, according to the wiring diagram with the amp it can run both the sub (bridged on channels 3 + 4) and a pair of front speakers (on channel 1 + 2) this sound right? Its a Genesis Profile Four btw.

Also says 8AWG power cable is just fine for it, would it be worth running 4AWG?

Cheers for anyhelp :)

And thanks to Mark (Mobtob) for dropping them over :)

Nice amp  .

Yes you can use channel 3+4 bridge to power the sub and use 1+2 to power the front components.

Think 8AWG can handle upto 60amps of amp power. 4AWG can handle upto 120amps. Think the profile Four uses a 25amp fuse so 8AWG would be plenty.

I think 8AWG would be fine - 4AWG can handle SERIOUS power and the cable is probably too thick to get through the bulkhead without drilling. ;)

Not sure about running fronts and sub with one amp. 2 x 120W RMS is probably good for running front speakers (standard are they?), but looking at that amp, I would look out for another decent 2 channel one to power the sub in bridged mode.

I'm now wondering if two channels can be bridged to make 120W RMS for the sub (might be enough I think) and leaving the other two channels for the front door speakers, which if standard, would be sufficient to power them (and quality of sound will improve from amp'ing alone ;) ) :speaker:

I thought a piccie or two would be useful ;)

This is the sort of size 4AWG is, and I'm thinking of putting this in my car, if it doesn't sell on ebay. :D

I belive you will have to drill the bulkhead to fit 4 guage wire and above thru.

maybe we should arrange a en-mass ICE fitting session sometime :D

Cheers chaps.

Im not going to run the standard front speakers on the amp, but I will when i change the fronts for components later on. But I suppose I can hook it all up to the amp and see how I go, then add another amp later if I need to as all the wiring will be there anyhow.

Nope no need. Plenty of room for 4 gauge :D

Had a listern to Josh's vRS with amp'd standard speakers. Sounds good. Would recommend it.

Im going to go the whole hog with mine and remove the ancilleries carrier so i can Dynamat the doors inside and mount the Component crossovers in the car rather than squeezed behind the door trim.

Any advice/prices on components for the front and where to get em?

What size components did you go for John?

16.5cm Focal PolyKevlar Components... With an Autoleads adapter ring with dynamat inside/outside...

That's what's going in mine anyway...

Although to be honest, my Boston amp is rocking the standard front components and until they burn out, I'm fairly happy with the results!

Infinity Kappa 5.1s in mine now - not amped yet though, but still sound good even when powered off the HU! I can't wait to finally get my finger out and wire up the Rockford to them.

Oh, and despite depth worries with my kappa's they fitted behind the door trims, but the crossovers were SO big they have to occupy 1/3 of the door pockets.

OK then, I like the look of these and should compliment my amp nicely, does a 6cm mounting depth sound OK for thoses that have stripped them down.

GEN-PROFILE16

Profile Series Components

Designed to provide the perfect performance match to Genesis Profile Amplifiers, this entry line of speakers provide a warmth and subtlety unusual for speakers in the class.

The silk dome tweeter provides smooth high frequency reproduction with good detail and no hint of harshness making this line extremely easy on the ears. The clever mechanical design provides multiple mounting options for optimum imaging and sound quality.

16.5cm Profile Series Component 2 Way Kit, Includes Mids, Tweeters, X-Overs, Designed In England

Im going to make my own adapters to mount the speakers on the carrier from MDF, should give better sound than plastic ones.

Views?

Sound OK - I'd only be slightly worried about the diamater - I went for 13cm comps due to this worry, and mine are just a bit over 6cm deep (62mm I think) so should fit behind the door card, as long as the spacers are done really accurately. ;)

Aside from that they look cool! :speaker:

Xaviers Rainbows are 16.5 cm's and with the MDF baffle he didnt have any problems.

Hmm, not entirely accurate :) It did fit but was mighty tight. The baffles were slightly too "wide" (ring too thick) which meant that the door trim was rubbing against them (but not the speaker)

WhereTF did you feed yours through the bulkhead John? I had to drill mine. I went in via the hold / pipe for the read wash wipe IIRC, behind / under the glovebox.

I think this is what Jason used too.

I'll post a picture later. I used the gromet at the top right (looking at the engine bay) of the bulk head. Behind the bonnet hing under the plastic cover.

Seen some nice Focals now that look quite good, Toxxin is running them in his Ibiza an they sound really clear, also cheaper than the Genesis ones, just waiting to find out the mounting depth of them.

Thats cheating - where's the fun if you're not taking a 15mm metal drill bit to your bulkhead?

It goes with the fun of scaping your hands to peices trying to get the cable throught the gromet :D

Thanks John for posting those photos. :)

Would it be worth a mod FAQing this?
