Toms Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian

Featured Replies

Well, as my girlfriend lives 87 miles away, and the 328 is averaging just 28mpg, I purchased this little beastie!

2000 W reg Peugeot 306 2.0HDi Meridian

Meridian is top spec for the 5 doors:

Electric windows

Remote central locking

Half leather sports seats

Aircon (which works!)

Heated mirrors

Steering column mounted audio controls

Metallic paint

14" alloys with Michellins all round.

Full service history too. Very pleased indeed.

Don't worry, the BMW has been sorned and will be left on the drive to be tinkered with over the next few months ;)

£1500?

£1500?

£1600, but its a full Peugeot documented history car, 1 owner with recent cambelt and service, and taxed until October!

There are cheaper examples around but this one really did shine above the rest. :)

Always liked the 306 HDi's

Had one in the past, great engines

Looks a nice runabout

Cheers

Damian

Good runabout Tom

Must say I didn't have high hopes for a 306, but for this sort of money for an economical run about they are hard to ignore! Very impressed with the punch its got and its certainly very smooth indeed.

Forgot to say Tom - this is one of the few French cars that I actually like :D - good choice!

306s are great fun to drive - they handle very nicely indeed.

I'm sure it would have been cheaper to find a local girlfriend though :)

Looks nice Tom

Can't really see you saving over £1600 in fuel costs for the time you may have this motor ?

Ah, but the BMW is sorned and now uninsured. £38/month vs £93/month.

First 230 miles has averaged 54mpg, mighty pleased with that. Thats 9.3p/mile. Compare that with 16p/mile for the 328, and at about 2000 miles a month (minimum, did over 3000 last month) thats £134/month saving in fuel. So just in fuel and insurance thats a saving of £189+ per month.

Plus the 328 eats tyres at over £70/corner etc.

The savings are clear really, and it means the 328 can sit on the drive and just be tinkered with, stripped and rebuilt etc so in a year/18 months time I can afford to put it back on the road as a play thing. :) If it came to it the 328 could be put back to standard spec and sold on to liquidate about £2k or so, but I'd rather not have to do that.

At least you SORNED it properly unlike me and my pea brain!!

Looks like a nice Peugeot though.

I reckon 6 months till the 328 is up for sale :)

Nah, I reckon 6 weeks before the 306 is up for sale ;)

Nice work Tom, that should save you a few quid

Very Nice, I always wanted one of those as the Meridian is a fantastic spec, instead I bought the Xsara Exclusive which had Full Leather / Climate Control & Auto Windscreen Wipers (was ex Citroen Managers car so fully loaded)over the Meridian and cost me over £1k less than the equivilent Meridian for the time but they are essentially the same car with the same body.

The only problem we had was excesive play in the Climate Fans to the point they stopped working and were a pig to change :(

Other than that they are fantastic cars and great fun to drive from standard.

Oh I didn't realise I had auto wipers til yesterday, so got them too :)

Well, popped some new Bosch wiper blades on, and my private plate is going on this afternoon.

Other than a few weepy bits in the engine bay to sort (injector leak off pipes, EGR gasket and a cam cover gasket), dare I say the car is faultless??

Are you sure that's not just a French electrical 'feature' Tom? ;) :P

Flipping heck, another change of car........

Used to drive my Mrs' one of these back in the day and I loved it but suprised you have moved over the 'German Border'..........:P

Well Simon, it was a bit of a tricky decision. With well under £2k to spend, its difficult to be too fussy, and when low running costs is a concern its difficult not to consider a 306 HDi.

However, I've done over 500 miles in it now, and its been rather pleasant. :)

As your local you may well be asked to work your magic on it in the near future ;)

awesome cars... still prefer my old one over the fabia vrs.... comfier and more refined engine....

Man i miss it

Mines was the same but i added gti spoiler front splitter and wheels :D

These are great handling cars, well done! The last of the desirable Pugs before they went all wide mouth marshmallow frog.

Looks like a C.I.D. car though. LOL

Whoop whoop!!!

Considering its got 120k on the clock, I got £600 off on grounds of it being a trade sale, the strictest MOT tester around (but I like my cars to be right) etc etc...

It FLEW through! Just an advisory on rear disks and pads  I was concerned about the windscreen but its only about 5mm and thats well under allowable apparently :)

Had a good poke around underneath while it was on the ramps and was very impressed with how good the condition is. He said it was the first 306 he'd passed first time, and even offered me £2k for it!

Will get some new rear pads and disks on at the weekend, but other than that I'll enjoy my 13 months of MOT and cheap motoring!
