Toms Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian

Featured Replies

Nice work Tom.

My girlfriends' 306 on an 'S' plate has 160,000 miles on the clock. It's the slightly older diesel engine and aside from a bit of blue smoke on overrun (I blame worn piston rings myself) it runs perfectly. It's a bit bent where it's had a front end incident in the past but for a car of it's age and milage I'd be happy to run it.

I think overall they are very good cars - especially if you see how many of them are on the roads despite them being 10 or 12 years old now :D

It is amazing how many you see on the roads condsidering! Lots of ****ters about too though tbh.

I tried the 1.9TD, but thought it was a bit agricultural, and not as torquey or economical. The HDI is leagues ahead tbh. :)

Yep the TD is a horridly refined engine - not great on fuel either... but they are extremely reliable :)

Indeed, and cheap as chips to fix when they do go wrong! I've seen turbos for as little as £50 for them!!!. Get the fuel pump wound up and have a giggle with it!

The HDI is a little more modern with more sensors etc, and a little pricier to fix when they do go wrong, but still very DIY friendly. :)

Can't believe I'm actually grinning from it passing first time! Sooooo chuffed!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Well, its certainly proving economical

Just filled up. 603 miles for £53.33 / 51.33l that’s 53.4mpg! That’s a theoretical range of 704 miles, but filled up as soon as the light came on as I didn't know how far it would go. Just driving to the speed limits, but not being overly cautious, I reckon high 50s would be easily achievable with a little thought.

As the HDI is all ECU controlled unlike the earlier DT lumps, I've booked in for a remap on 16th May. 90bhp > 120bhp and 160lbft > 200lbft to be expected as conservative figures. Should boost economy a tad whilst giving that bit more flexibility for overtaking and dual carriageway work etc. All for £120 :) Apart from a handsfree kit that will be it for the modding. It handles well as standard and its ride quality is exceptional. I MAY look at a set of alloys with tyres when these ones wear low, but that would only be to some 306 GTI-6 15" wheels. :)

All good so far, never thought I'd be happy in a French car, let alone a diesel one!!!

:D You bought a car for economy and are spending £120 on a remap?

If you bought an older one you could have just turned the injection pump up a bit :D

How long before the suspension modifications? ;)

Like the new car Tom, nice example you have.

By the way Tom if you come to sell this in the next 12 months or so drop me a PM - I'd like first refusal if that's possible ;)

I've fixed your post for you.

Me sell a car within 12 months, that would be out of character.

I know, £120 seems silly really on a remap, but doing so many miles its nice to have a bit more flexibility with the performance.

And thanks Skodaboy. :)

Thanks Alex :rolleyes::rofl:

I've had the BMW since 01/08/08, so thats nearing 9 months now with no plan to sell anytime soon :P

In all honesty I had no plans to get a girlfriend that lived 87 miles away, otherwise I'd still be running the beemer.

306s are awesome. I miss my S-Reg DTurbo-S to this day. What power are you expecting after the remap? You want a nice set of cyclones on it!!

About 120bhp and 200lbft torque. :)

Sounds good!!!

A colleague of mine had a 306 with the older TD engine. Ran it on 50/50 cooking oil and diesel

Not possible to run the HDI on such fuel though unfortunately - its a common rail engine :)

:D Can you remember typing that, Tom? ;)

Yeah, cheers Ed. As it happens I received an unexpected cheque in the post yesterday that means I could have kept it, but ho hum :(

Sorry to hear that Tom. Unfortunately my mate's Peugeot has started to show signs that it may be about time it was retired to a scrap heap so I don't think there's any chance of us backing out of the deal now.

As discussed previously though - you're more than welcome to come and drive it around a track some time ;)

He he, passing it on to another Briskodian is the best possible scenario imho, no real regrets. :)

I had one of these Tom, a Meridian Estate - running 160bhp.
