high rev's

Featured Replies

when my m8 puts his clutch in to change gear the car revs its wee head off and when he has been driving for a while and switches car off then starts it again the heater plug light stays on longer than normal and the car revs high again any ideas thanx mark

Get the car scanned with VCDS then come back and post the results of the fault codes.

i had a similar problem with my seat cupra. needed a throttle body clean

Or the coolant temp sensor is on it's way out, I'd start here as it's cheap, mine did it for a while, since the new sensor has been in it's not done it once, I had the eml on with mine as well.

another common fault as Supurbia has pointed out. Its cheap and easy to install. I changed 2 in 2.5yrs! In fact i ended up with a spare MAF, ignition coils and a temp sender in the boot.

Which is exactly the reason why a scan can save you loads of money, change what has actually gone wrong rather than second guessing the items that may have failed, it can easily start getting very expensive this way.

That's true Giz, but the part is 12 quid and a bit of effort, if it cures it that's 48 quid less than taking it to Skoda.

The reason I think it might be doing it is that if it is on it's way out it will be sending the wrong signal back to the ecu and probably overfuelling the engine, hence the high reving.

does rather sound like the coolant temp sensor. Also it might not show any fault codes if it is, as it has to give a stupid reading before a fault is logged rather than it being wrong but within the possible range for the sensor. I had these symptoms on my octy and to start with it didn't throw any fault codes up.

If its the temp sensor, as every one has pointed out, it wont show up on VAGCOM. I changed 2 and i had no fault codes however the problems went once i changed the temp sensor.

I beg to differ, i have a fault code up for the sensor at the moment (intermittent) however it is yet to show any signs of a fault.

So it's a job i know is going to need doing soon.

In that case it may show up on VAGCOM if you have some specific temp sensor issue as i never got it.

As I said, you get two problems, either the sensor give the wrong temp but within the allowed range, i.e. 30 instead of 80, which I think then makes it rev to fast but not give an error. Or it gives a silly number, such as 150 degrees and the ECU probably ignores it and logs an error. Both caused by a faulty sensor, it just depends how wrong the output from the sensor is.

Bluddy hell Giz, you trying to cost the geezer extra, three ppl agree with me, and I'd rather have the airbox out and cost me 12 notes than let the Skabba bodgers loose on my car, getta grip son, the forum is set up to keep cost down and you seem to wanna send ppl the expensive route.

Not at all, who mentioned going to Skoda for a scan? there are enough people on here who would do it for either a drink or less.

A VCDS scan costs me nothing :) (i am amazed that as a cabbie, that you or a mate haven't go it as well!)

Your point is certainly one way of looking at it, however another is you replace a £12+ part and the symptoms are still there, so that's then £12 wasted, so you then change the next item that it might be?

I don't know anyone with one tbh Giz, I just thought it was a cheap option that will fail anyway eventually, and some times the scan doesn't show the true fault, it reads the one masking it, anyway lets hope the fella gets it sorted one way or the other eh.
