Broken pipe and temp sensor

Featured Replies

Hi guys, took the covers off to change my black sensor to the green, all sorted and fine and dandy, but.....

As the picture shows, have this broken pipe, what is it, what does it do, and is it serious?

Easy to change? blah de blah de blah??

Trust me, I know nothing......

Quite a common problem. It's a breather pipe. About £30 iirc and there is another L shaped one near the dipstick that tends to go at the same time. Someone will be able to help with part numbers.

Tape it up for the mean time and it should do as a temporary fix

Just to let you know, got the pipe changed this morning, they charged me 28.54 for the hose and a tenner to change the pipe. I was going to do it myself, but, i thought, hey for a tenner, carry on!!

That was at my local garage

Cheers

Steve

Its a pretty safe bet that if that pipe has split like that then the lower pipe will not be far behind! Aslo need to check the pipes under the manifold as the long one that goes down to the Crankcase Breather splits. they all rot from the inside due to the horrible gases that they contain annd cause running lean and idle problems. If you can get access to VAG COM then log block 032 and post the results
