drop links with coilovers??

Featured Replies

wot is the deal with the advised drop links when fiiting tge likes of v-maxx coilovers??

read on the official website they dont give the warranty if u dont fit the droplinks.

wot do the drop links do and do you really need them??

cheers

Some kits you need them, some you dont.

I dont run short ones with my AP's.

Im sure its the ARB that rubs of driveshaft.

If you are winding them right down, you wont be able to move.

what he said.

i have vmaxx and they are wound right down, tried without the drop links at first and the car barely moved so put shorter links in and problem solved.

I think it depends on the type of bracket on the strut.

If its like the one on the LEFT in the picture below, as on AP's, Weitecs and early V-maxx, you don't need shorter droplinks as the bracket lifts the arb up.

If its like the RIGHT one, you do need them.

This is what happens if you fit shorter and they arent needed.

Does anyone else find that the drop links hit the arch liner on full lock? Particularly if you go over a speed bump whilst on full lock!

Yes, I am just going to cut away part of the arch liner.

I fitted a set of TA teknix coliovers on a 9n polo yesterday and drop links.

The links were hitting the chassis as in that picture.

Take it i should have just put the normal ones back on then?

If the bracket is lifted up as on the AP's yes normal droplinks I think

Im running vmaxx... shorter links were required.. tried oe links and it was a no go !! wasnt even that low

Like I say, I'm fairly sure it depends on what type of ARB bracket you have on the strut, the ones with the L-shape brackets (which are on AP's, some eBay cheapuns, Weitecs and KW I think) don't need shorter links in 99% of cases.
