I want more...

Featured Replies

I have only just bought my '09 Octavia VRS but I notice that if I fade to the rear speakers they are very weak.I assume this car has 8 speakers?

How could I improve the sound without altering the look of the interior? I want to keep the std entertainment unit,is this possible if I want better sound? I am not looking for ear-bursting performance, just better overall quality when turned up.

We have a local guy who does this sort of work, but when I took my Saab 9-3 to him for the same he said it was an expensive upgrade. He got very technical and completely lost me,so I just nodded and tried to look as if I knew what he was on about.

Thanks guys.

Change the speakers for the same size so they sit behind the standard trim.

If you want the impression of more volume then fit a subwoofer. If you want better sound quality to be honest you need to start with replacing the headunit, it really is a weak link.

I've never been happy with the sound of the stock system. It has a lack of midrange and the tweeters are both crass and harsh sounding. I replaced these first with Infinity reference ones and the sound got some more sparkle but still lacked midrange. I then put a sub in using a feed from the aerial and speaker to low level converter. This sounded ok but still not right no matter how much fiddling with the tone controls. I had midrange set to 9!

I've since used some RTA software to plot the frequency curve and there is quite a hole in the 500hZ range which is where voices are quite prevalent. The standard speakers are really designed as a 3 way system. The main door speakers are nearly 7inch so getting into midwoofer territory and not helped by the awful position firing into your hips. There is a midrange speaker location just infront of the handle which was used when ordering a speaker upgrade a few years ago.

However, I've now taken the plunge and got an Alpine H/u with time correction and the sound has literally transformed. Image is correct, clarity is good but still a lack of midrange. The parametric equaliser is more accurate to try and fill the hole but even with this I am still planning on getting some midrange speakers.

Sorry longwinded answer to a not straightforward question. :)
