Vibration during acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 52 reg 2.0L Octavia 63k miles. For the last few thousand miles I have had a speed dependant 'wobble' from the engine area from about 40mph upwards while accelerating or climbing a hill, the harder the acceleration the more noticable the wobble. On a balanced throttle or deceleration there is no wobble and the wobble isn't really felt through the steering. Having searched any car forum I could, I have found the same description of the problem along with "and the garage couldn't find anything wrong" Having discounted tyres, wheels, balancing, tracking and bushes as the source of the problem the only thing remaining is the driveshafts, specifically the inner cv joints, that under normal garage checking, i.e. see if there is any free play evident by tugging at them, appear ok. I have seen a comment somewhere that under torque load the inner cv joint can bind or move slightly off line preventing free movement and presumably causing the engine to rock. Does anybody have any experience of this problem before I spend a fortune having the driveshafts removed, cleaned and the offending joint replaced, if that is the problem / replacing both of the driveshafts?

Many thanks

Might sound daft, but engine mounts or dogbone mount? I had a mini van years ago that would clunk and wobble when accelerating or braking. Turned out that the engine mounts were loose

Tightened them and all sorted. I'm probably completely wrong, just thinking aloud :o

I should have said I have replaced the dog-bone mount and the other engine mounts are fine.Cheers:)

Hi,,I have the same "Wobble" problem on My Octavia. The Bushes are nearly gone on mine,,but,I'm not sure it's the problem. My Mechanic has told Me to let it be,until the problem gets worse, them We'll be closer to finding out what the problem is!

I'm convinced though that it's either the bushes,or the drive/s.On top of all this, the front Shocks are gone also,so,this might be another factor.

It is annoying though, not being able to give it a good bit of power,,without having the living feck shakin out of you..

I had the same problem on my octy vrs all my bushes seamed ok. It was really annoying me so i changed both front wish bones and it cured the problem, even thogh the bushes looked ok they must have been moving under load.
