Parking light

Featured Replies

Anyone else notced what happens when you park, leave your indicator on and then urn the car off and get out.....Instant parkiing lights! Depending on what way you indicate it depends on which side of the car gets lit up.

Found it out by accident today and couldn't see any other mention of it in this forum (sorry if this is common knowledge!).

Yeah its a feature, has been on many cars for quite a number of years (My old Cavalier GSi used to do it and that was a H plate). Cetainly been a VAG feature for ages.

Its in your owners handbook :)

OK, now this will sound silly, but which side should you leave illuminated? I mean, if you indicate to pull to the left of the road, and leave the indicator stalk in that position then you will have the left side lights on. This strikes me as a bit silly, because it gives the impression that you're taking up less of the road than you really are. Any comments?

Park with your offside (right) light on. You only need to put your parking lights on where the speed limit exceeds 30mph.

Out of interest it's a German thing. It's always been a requirement in Germany that parking lights be displayed on the offside of the car at night. I think you can park on either side of an urban road as long as parking lights are shown on the 'outside' of the car. All German derived cars have this including many Vauxhalls. I had a VW 1600 Fastback way back in 1971 that had this feature.

I never had such quirky luxuries with my last car (N reg Corsa sport)!
