Octy vrs or Mazda 6 mps?

Featured Replies

Been looking for a good deal on an Octy vrs petrol, and have noticed that for around the same price I can pick up a Mazda 6 mps!

This is a seriously good car .4 wheel drive,256bhp,Bose stereo, the lot.

Any opinions?

Get the MPS.

or wait a month or so for the facelift Vrs ?

rear seats don't fold down on mps which is a complete pain

Get the MPS. I had the MPS before my RS company car, and I would change it to a MPS any day. It's a great car. I loved it.

I had a Mazda 6 for a while and then when I was looking for something faster i too was looking at the vRS and the MPS. had three hour long test drives in the MPS, spent 30 mins in the vRS and my mind was made up

the MPS is an absolute pig when it comes to fuel economy but im sure fuel economy isn't your highest priority, even so the vRS is a lot better on fuel

You dont realise quite how fast your going in the MPS, its easy to do 30 - 40mph faster than it feels well into 3 figures. The handling isn't great and already having a mazda 6 before my vRS, the interior in the vRS is superb in comparison

The mps is a big heavy car and it doesnt hide it when you drive it. Id say give both a good long test drive, if you can live with fwd than the vRS wins it hands down for me, especially with a remap.

if you really do want 4wd i'd be more tempted to look at an R32 or an older S3, some of the earlier R32 are pretty cheap now or even an A4 quattro all depending on how old a car your willing to buy

The vRS being part of VAG has a wide and varied array of tuning options, the MPS is some what limited. When I had my mazda 6 diesel i struggled to even find a remap for it

Both are nice cars but I think the vRS is a better all-rounder, not quite as fast at the top end but has the MPS licked in the tight twisty stuff

Hope thats some help to you and not too biased

Thanks everyone, given me some things to think about. Must admit I'm surprised at Dan saying the vrs is better handling. I've driven a vrs but not a mps.

I'd bbetter get a good test drive.

By the way what mpg could I expect from mps(normal driving-occasional bursts)

Low 20's

the MPS's handles well but its a big heavy car, where the MPS tends to understeer, the vRS will keep its line

From Auto express...

We achieved 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds in the MPS – nearly a second faster than the official figure. What’s more, its phenomenal traction, excellent stability and brilliant chassis are on a par with the Mitsubishi’s. The MPS loves to be thrown into corners, is highly adjustable and very rewarding. It’s an Evo without the aggression and undesirable image, but with nine-tenths of the driver appeal. A surprisingly potent mix.

Getting harder to resist!

Oh! forgot to mention,i'm not looking for new but around 10k to spend

As i said, take them both for a long test drive only down side to that is, i dont think you'd be able to find a remapped vRS to take for a drive

Which would be quicker say 30-70mph,MPS or remapped vRS

Remember you can probably remap the MPS.

Also consider Mazda 3 MPS if you don't need the space.

Have you done a search on here for MPS info?

Pitt VRS or someone similar had one for a while and posted some stuff about it.

At the bottom of the page is a box called similar threads with plenty of MPS chat which should be a help to the OP :)

Doh!!

I never knew that:O

Had a 6 Estate for a while. Nice to look at, excellent handling and just that little bit different as there aren't many about. My vRS felt heavy to steer and not quite as much fun to drive afterwards but it trounced the Mazda in terms of economy and that's important to me. Your money, your choice.

theres very few places that remap mazda's, I really struggled to get my mazda 6 remaped and mine was the 2.0 diesel!

Paul, with your vRS steering, I believe its weighted and can be made lighter using vagcom
