Fuel Pump or injectors?!

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Having some problems starting the car (1999 1.8 normally asp petrol). On occassion only, it cranks over as normal and just doesnt catch. If you then try again it will get it on the 2nd attempt - I've always gotten it started. Had the starter motor replaced in January so assuming its not that. Also, the fact that it starts on 2nd attempt suggests its not the battery?

Any ideas? Could it be the fuel pump or something? Or the flywheel?

Help appreciated!

if it's cranking as normal, it's not the starter motor, battery or fly-wheel. It's either a fuelling or ignition issue. I would suggest the first. Get it on your local dealers diagnostic to find out exactly what is wrong. Does it happen when cold or hot or both? Probably just a sensor needs replacing, or something needing tweaking. Best to know what is wrong first rather than just changing injectors and fuel pumps to see if that fixes it

Agreed. I'd get the fault codes read before anything else. Check the HT system, injectors, fuel pump, and engine temperature sensor as priority items.
