About to put a deposit on the VRS, any pointers?

Featured Replies

How do folks?

Having just sold my Peugeot 106 rallye, I'm about to put a deposit on a Black 55 plate VRS.

I took it out for a test drive and was thoroughly impressed, it felt solid and responsive. The VRS reminded me very much of the golf GTTDI, the torque between 2-3krpm was somewhat suprising!

I tested the car for any lags or judders in low revs (I hear this is a potential fault with the vrs), but all appeared OK. It has full service history with skoda, which is good!

Anything else I need to look out for before putting down the money? The car has done 36k miles and is advertised for £7200, which I feel is overpriced. Would £6800 with a years tax thrown in sound fair price?

Look forward to being part of the community, I have some plans to lower the car 30mm and maybe have the wheels done white, keeping it rather OEM style and tasteful :) Oh, and a remap along with the Leon FR air intake :D

Cheers

I'd target £6500 and work up - remember that dealerships are desperate to sell cars ;)

I Agree with yegnold, I got a black magic VRS on a 55 plate with 33K on it in January for £6300.

That was from a Jag main dealer strangely enough. I think it was only up for £6600 before I started bargaining so £7200 is way overpriced IMO.

I think you could do much better that £6800 for it with some haggling.

Good luck!

That definately sounds a little pricey. I bought my VRS just under 2 weeks ago, 56 plate, 25.5k miles, with full OEM leather, for £6495. It is sprint yellow, but thats all the better for me! And that was from a dealership. No tax, but they did top the warranty up to a full year (and the breakdown too!) which cost them £190.

One thing to look out for is the front console bushings (front wishbone rear mounts). Mine are on there way out already. Have a search on here, you'll find loads of info.

I tested the car for any lags or judders in low revs (I hear this is a potential fault with the vrs), but all appeared OK.

The famous stutter isn't a fault.... it is a feature  It appears on later cars with the BLT engine and is caused iirc by meeting euro iv emisions (06 on?) If you start looking at newer models it generally appears at around 1750 rpm on a trailing throttle, and isn't that big an issue imo.

Price sounds a little on the steep side depending on condition, extras (zenons) etc. Also remember that at 4 years old a belt change is in order.

Welcome to Brisky btw

Another bargaining chip you may want to exploit is that the 40K service is a biggie. My understanding is that the dealers can shift every vRS they get their hands on, so you may not find them too keen to slash the price.

Robinsons in Norwich have a 14K '56 plate for £8400 and Vindis Cambridge want £9995 for a 12000 mile March 2007 '07 plate car with NO OPTIONS apart from the metallic black paint:eek: which is just ridiculous frankly.

That's an 83% residual on a 2-year old car. Someone has lost the plot there I reckon.

Well..

Having been in the showroom for the best part of 45 minutes, the 'best price' achieved was £7450 which includes a 15month warranty and 12 months tax.

She has a day off on Monday, so i'll be going back and talking to someone else. ;)

You'd think with the current climate, salesfolk would be desperate to sell, but this woman refused to drop the car a penny as "there's just not enough margin in it".

On a side note - i've found these:
