Baby Seat

Featured Replies

With a munchkin arriving in the next few months, I thought it's about time I got around to looking for a seat. Now with the Octavia having the shortest seatbbelts in the world what rear facing seats fit? I got my Mrs a Graco that fits a treat in the back of her car but will never fit in mine due to the seatbelts. So any suggestions or experiences are greatly appreciated.

I have found going to the shops the best for this (they will always check the fit in your car as amongst other issues they will not take carseats back in case you have had a crash in it), in my experience Toys R us have been surprisingly good when ever I have bought car seats.

(sorry to not give a more definitive answer, but my kids are no longer in stage 1 seats and i dont have an octavia yet)

We have a Maxi cosi Cabrio fix Maxi-Cosi

Which fits fine in the back of the octy, it's a little tight in the front, but then again it never goes in there because of the airbags.

We had the Maxicosi one as well.

I would recommend getting the isofix base as it's so much easier getting the little 'un in and out especially if your using the car seat on pram frame.

try this - get a britax with the isofix base they are great and so easy to use - no belts and one handed operation.

Maxi-Cosi get my vote which ever model or size of seat you need. We've had three Maxi Cosi seats for my son over the last 4 years for my Octavia vRS (and another 3 for grandmas car too ). Go to any of the High Street outlets and get a trial fitting to make sure you are happy with the fit. All the Maxi Cosi seats fit the Octavia vRS well. Then shop around for a deal on the internet for the best price. Often "last years colours" are heavily discounted but watch for subtle differences in the model number. It can get a bit confusing when trying to compare like with like. We got a cracking deal from Boots just before Christmas - saved me a fortune

.

Probably the most important thing is that Maxi Cosi generally come out well in the safety reviews and for practicality in everyday use.

Depending on where you are in North Yorkshire, I would take a trip to Watts in Middlesbrough. I have found them to be very helpful and generally reasonably priced compared to Mothercare, Toys R Us etc. They will be happy to try different seats in your car and advise which will be most suitable.

We had a Mothercare travel system (push chair, car seat etc) first, but all of the seats since then have been Britax.

mamas and papas `primo viaggio' fits our Octavia Estate no problems with seatbelt length.

Its also worth subscribing to Which online for a pound, getting the review about childrens car seats and then cancelling the subscription. It will allow you to rule out certain seats for being less safe than others. So long as you cancel within the first month thats all you pay:)

Go for one with isofix, no way you can fit it wrong, the isofix site will tell you which will fit (and which won't) and where

another vote for isofix from me. Takes two minutes to swap our two isofix car seats between our cars - SWMBO has a seat leon, so basically the same.

I haven't had any problem with the length of the rear seltbelts, I had a rear facing baby seat and the seatbelt fit round it fine.

so anything with iso is ok? is it just the front that causes trouble?

i dont plan on putting the lil un on the front seat

ive got til sept to sort this one  i was also wondering about a retrim seat :D it must match, i did see a grey striped seat somewhere that would suit the octy ok

We have always used the Recaro baby seats, which are ISOFIX - as I cannot spend enough on safety, especially for our little'un.

Great shop in Bishop Auckland - 'Baby on Board' that is a registered stockist for Recaro, and that's where ours came from.

We started with the rear facing seat - Young Profi plus, then upgraded to the next level seat - Young Expert Plus, which is now at the largest setting, and will then go onto the next Recaro seat - as can't rate them enough, and that's from experience having been in a head-on crash when a pratt went through a red light, and we went into the side of him....everyone was ok, infact I think little'n had the best seat in the house!

Link to the Recaro's can be found here:

All I can say is go for ISOFIX
