My new VRS - A few questions

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just bought a 53 plate Octavia vRS with 60k miles on the clock and FSSH. It came with a 3 month warranty as I bought it from a well known nationwide car dealership. I have a couple of questions about the car:

The Gear stick moves front to back slightly when pulling off in first gear occasionaly, which Im thinking possibly is down to a slightly worn Gearbox mount??

Under full throttle the turbo sounds healthy but every now and then it sounds like it backs off the boost slightly. Possible boost leak?

The timing belt was changed in March by a Skoda Dealers so does that mean the water pump would have been replaced?

I think there may have been more questions but I cant think of them at moment. The car is great fun to drive and even the missis loves it. :)

Thanks, Dan

Your service history should say about the water pump, but i cant see a skoda dealer replacing the cam belt and and not doing the water pump 2.

You could get a fault code check run; this would probably tell you if you have a boost leak etc.

IIRC about £30-£40 at a dealers or ?x beer tokens to a friendly local forum member with VAG-COM access.

You should buy a vag-com yourself. It's amazing how much time and money it will save you, plus you get to fiddle with the car :)

Cheers for the suggestions. I know a couple of people with VAG Coms so I'll give that a go. Any ideas on the gearstick movement?

if u got 3 mths warranty ,i would advise u to go to the dealer and have a full checkup and a full written report !

yeh or take it to your local garage and just see if they'll inspect it and write a full report. then go back to the place you bought it from and tell them what you've found and see if they'll repair under warranty. the only reason i say this is because the place you bought it from might tend to cut corners rather than pay money to repair the car they've sold to you. they might not and i'm not saying every car dealer is like this, but its what i'd do/have done just for my own piece of mind.

I'd suspect the console bushes from what you're saying. Open the bonnet and try to rock the engine fore and aft once you've found something that's engine and not just plastic cover!

If so, this is a good time to have them uprated!

Console Bushes? Is that the Dog bone mounts?
