Seat stops production of 1.9 105ps TDi

Featured Replies

Just been over to s Seat forum for info on the new Ibiza Cupra and found out Seat of stopped production of the 1.9 TDi 105 ps and replaced it with the 1.6 common rail TDI again producing 105ps, those with orders placed for the 1.9 have been told that they will now receive the 1.6 ( at an extra cost of £200). A 130ps 1.9 common rail is rumoured to be added shortly to the line up.

Any news of the Fabia's 1.9 TDi being phased out or are Skoda falling further behind?

Why engineer a 130ps 1.9 8v, when there's a 140ps 2.0 16v engine?

It would appear to me that Skoda are falling further behind.... The sportiest Fabia being just the old 1.9 105 bhp, body kit, lowered suspension and a 'Sport' badge... :thumbdwn:

Nothing worthy of replacing my Fabia vRS with....

The 2.0 diesel engine wont fit in the front of the Ibiza/Fabia platform.

So could the 1.6 be made to produce 130ps?

I did hear tell of a 135 BHP version for the Golf.

Well why not stick that into the Fabia? Rather than redevelop the 1.9!

are the common rail 1.6's going to be 8v or 16v? and i can see these working well in the fabia/ibiza/polo platform but being under powered in the golf

Since the 2.0 is a bored-out 1.9(check bore/stroke figures in sales brochures) is the problem a larger block?

Just because the bore and stroke indicate a simply bored out block, it does not necessarially mean that is the case. the 1.9 block was designed with an 8v head in mind. The 2.0l uses a 16v head. This could mean that the block needed to be redesigned to acomodate the head properly, making it too big for a Fabia engine bay.

Whats more is VW could be replacing the 2.0l PD engine with a similarly powered 1.6common rail over time, but rather than stop produtcion of the lot, they will phase it in gradually when needed. The Fabia will probalby get the 1.6 once full production is under way and can cope with the demand and the 1.9 has been stopped.

There's already a CR 2.0, so I'd imagine that will be the direct replacement for the PD.

No reason why it should be - two generations of engine back the 1.9TDI had up to 160bhp from the factory so a 1.6 should easily be capable of 130bhp which is plenty for a car of that size.
