Selling registration plate help!

Featured Replies

Hi all.

A friend is trying to sell her number plate - with Zoe in it...

Question is - she has it on retention - cost £105.

If she sells it on ebay, how does the transfer work? It has be advertised as plate only and all costs to be met by buyer.

What is the course of action to sign it over to someone else?

IIRC, the fact that it is on retention means that the new buyer will not have to pay for the transfer.

Your friend could advertise it on ebay as "buyer to cover all fees" and explain that because the plate is already on retention, the total price will be whatever the final auction price is PLUS the transfer fee (currently £80) - at least that way your friend will get some of the retention fees back...

As far as paperwork is concerned, it's simply a case of sending the retention forms off to DVLA with the new owner details on it (along with their log book and MOT certificate if it's going straight on a car...)

she has to sign it in 2 places , to the new owner .

the fees are paid but it will cost the new owner £25 to assign it to their car.

she can put it on ebay with "fees paid" and price it accordingly
