Loose + rattling engine cover

Featured Replies

Should I try and fix it or just rip it off. Is there any real reason for it in the first place.

Its loose at the back where the two prongs go into a groove around a rubber bush.

The groove in the bush is way too slack to hold the plastic bits securely, so it rattles.

In fact its been rubbing on a hose from the expansion tank thingy and its almost through !

Its to make your engine quieter. Mine has been taken off to try and get more air in the engine bay, but it does sound like a tractor. Dave

I should have guessed it was a noise thing by the thick padding on the underside :o

Don't really want to take it off then and make it noisier, bad enough as it is.

I'll work something out.

I have the same problem Mr Witter. I might look at sorting it out this evening so will let you know if I find an easy way of fixing it.

I have the same problem on my Octy vRS TDi. Every week I have to re-attach the dam thing.

2 Mahoosive washers, a 10mm nut and some threaded bar. Sandwich the 2 plastic prongs in between them and hand tighten together and then a litte nip with a spanner.

I lost my rubber and came up with this. I can still take the cover off by sliding the prongs out between the washers.

If you want I'll take a pic for those of you who dont get what I'm on about

My simple fix:

- Loosen 10mm nut that holds the rubber mount on to the engine bay area / inlet manifold / whatever it is mounted to.

- Rotate rubber mounting thing by 90 degrees.

- Tighten up 10mm nut.

- Voila! A nice tight fitting rubber mount for the engine cover.

30 seconds, no more crappy vibrations :D

Sounds like a good trick, I'll give it a go this weekend, while I'm colour coding the grill
