'Cash for Scrap'ed my Mazda for the 'Anti-Octavia'!!

Featured Replies

Well it's everything the Octavia isn't, performance wise at least.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I give you the Hyundai i10:

£8195 for the top of the range plus £350 for Black Mica paint (it's got happy shiny crystals in it apparently!) and £30 for mats is £8575 on the road.

Then £2250 back for my scrapped Mazda 323 which is worth £500-£750. And it's mine for £6325.

Worst Bit - Performance

0-60 - 12.8 seconds, 77 Bhp, 87lbs ft Torque.

Best Bits - Spec

Front + side airbags, Air Con, Remote Central Locking, Electric Front and Rear Windows, Electric Mirrors and Electric Sunroof, 14" Alloys, Front Fogs, Heated Seats, Leather Steering Wheel, Rear Spoiler. 4 star NCAP. 57 mpg  (yes it's a petrol). £35 a year road tax. 5 year warranty.

And the very best bit is that it is for the wife so I get the use of the Octy back!!!

What size engine does it have, I've got a 873cc engine and I can hit 50mpg too (nowhere near in that kind of comfort though  )

1200cc.

It's fairly nippy to 50mph but then starts to struggle. If it could keep the power on all the way to 60 I think it would have a considerably quicker 0-60 time. It weighs in at under a ton as well.

As someone who currently drives a 68bhp car with a 0-60 officially rated at about 15 seconds, and 73.7lbs ft Torque, that sounds quite appealing :D:thumbup: Doesn't sound too much power that you can't always put the pedal to the metal, red line it, and toy with the mercs and beamers.

Must say I quite like the look of the Hyundai i10. But being 6' 3" I have to wonder if there'd be enough space behind the wheel, and if it would be comfortable on long journeys.

I reckon there would of plenty of room.

It looks Yaris like with quite a high driving position that gives you extra room. We rented a Yaris in Oz and me being 6' 7" there was tonnes of room and a really good driving position.

And think the engine will be just fine as it's only a very light car and will still shift... might just need to employ some little car/engine techniques like slowing down as little as possible for bends, roundabouts etc! hehe

And as anewman said that's plenty compared to felly's and favorits and you can't half make them shift!

Had one of these the last two times my Fabia went in for work (dealer is shared Skoda/Hyundai). Was very impressed with it. Like you said, seems very nippy up to about 50 and then struggles slightly on the motorway (but then the revs are quite low at that speed for such a small engine).

If I was in the market for a small car right now, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these - especially as the company I work for has a deal with Hyundai for discounts off their cars (about £700 off one of these up to about £5500 off a top end Santa Fe!)

Build quality seemed way better than my Fabia - only things I noticed was the seatbelt height adjuster on both cars squeaked a lot over bumps (2nd one slightly better than the 1st) and the 2nd car had a very spongy clutch pedal - really was like pressing your foot on a bath sponge for the first 3 inches and then the clutch was almost like a switch - stalled it 6 times in 5 miles! - don't remember the 1st one doing that.

Lots of toys on that top spec one too - incredible value.

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers guys. It was registered in the UK on the 13th May so now awaiting a call for delivery date. I just wish it was the Coupe and not the i10 but still it'll keep SWMBO happy!!

Funky little thing

Did you have to wait long for it? Honest John recommended this car and people were coming back and saying demand outweighed supply.

Nice little motor and those figures aren't too shabby for a 1.2:thumbup:

At the moment we don't really know for sure. We ordered it on the 8th May and put the deposit down. At that point the salesman said it would be no later than July/August for delivery. We'd heard a rumour from a friend who went to another dealer that it would be much quicker and they were able to give details of available vehicles. Obviously our salesman had been told not to promise anything and he said all available cars had sold. The Hyundai factory is apparently working flat out 24/7 producing UK spec i10s.

The one thing he did say was that we'd get ours sooner because we went for top of the range with some extras. The most in demand were the bottom of the range bog standard model as they were going for under £5k when you take cash for scrap into account.

Now that it's been assigned a registration I'm guessing it'll be coming soon but we're not getting out hopes up just yet. Apparently we'll find out more next week.
