Can't find a swtiched 12v feed in the Engine Bay - Please help

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm trying to find an ignition switched 12v feed in the engine bay to power some day time running lights (small subtle CCFLs in the lower grille next to the fog lights).

I searched through the fuse box and found several unused fuse sockets that went 12v with the ignition on, and also some used fuses that were 3.46v constant and then 12v with the ignition on (what's that all about).

I connected the inverters for the CCFLs to one of the switched feeds, however when I keyed off, the CCFLs stayed on, still drawing 12v from the previously switched socket.

I disconnected the inverters and re checked the socket, it had now changed to being constant 12v.......... I did the same several times for other switched sockets, but they all changed to constant 12v..........:confused:

Is this the CANBUS being too clever? Is the load characteristic of the CCFL inverters fooling the system some way?

I've found switched 12v feeds in the fuse box in the dash to power my Pure Highway DAB radio that worked as expected.

All I want is a switched 12v feed in the engine bay..........!

Please help.

Cheers, Ian.
