When shopping for an Octy diesel estate, how do you tell which are the 130pd variety? Did they get released with a specific spec model or were this engine an option on any version?

Look for the engine code, it should be ASZ on the 130 engine. I think the 130 was in the L&K and Elegance spec only, not sure on that one though.

6 speed box and red DI on the back rather than a 5 speed box and red I for the 110 bhp version is the give away. IIRC the 130 came in L&K, Elegance and Ambiente SE spec and it was available from 2003 onwards, though the Ambiente SE was a run out model probably in 2004.

If you look in the boot,,where the "tag" is for the engine number,paint code etc. is,,you should have the "bhp" on it also. The 130 bhp model should have either 97Kw or 132ps.

Personally,I always thought the idea of the Red i or Red Di didn't give way to much,,as people can easily change them.
